Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: Secret Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Secrets in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are the 105 hidden collectibles scattered across the Caribbean's 46 named locations — split across three distinct sub-types: Treasure Maps, Bottled Letters, and Special Chests, each with its own rewards and map icon.

They are the single largest collectible category in the game and the one most likely to be partially confused with regular Chests. All Secret locations are fully documented on Map Master's Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced interactive maps.

The Three Secret Sub-Types

Treasure Maps

30 of the 105 total Secrets are Treasure Maps, each a physical collectible found on a skeleton, in a camp, or inside a Warehouse, that unlocks a Buried Treasure Chest elsewhere in the Caribbean.

The game's internal collectible tracker classifies Treasure Maps as Secrets — they share the Secret map icon and count toward the Secret total. Map Master tracks all 30 in the dedicated Treasure Map guide for clarity.

Bottled Letters and Manuscripts

Narrative lore documents that provide historical context, fictional correspondence, and backstory about the Golden Age of Piracy.

Letters are found in glass bottles washed up on beaches. Manuscripts are named historical documents (Voynich Manuscript, Tabulae Rudolphinae, Aberdeen Bestiary, Epistola de Magnete, Introductio Geographica) stored in special chests.

Neither gives gameplay rewards — they exist to enrich the world's historical texture and are required for the overall Secret count.

Special Chests

The most practically valuable sub-type. Distinguished from regular money-giving Chests by a larger icon on the map — standard Chests use a small Chest icon, Special Chests use a larger icon — and by rewarding items rather than Reales.

The game classifies them entirely differently on the collectible tracker: Special Chests count as Secrets; Regular Chests count under the Chest category. For trophies, only specific Special Chests matter: the ones that reward Art Pieces, Swords, and Pistols.
