Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: NPC Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the NPCs you encounter are the architects of your story. While some offer consumables and lore, 18 NPC questlines weave through the entire campaign — 10 required for trophies and achievements, 8 providing bonus rewards.

Missing a single interaction with the four ending-critical characters locks out specific endings permanently for that playthrough.

Every NPC location, interaction step, and dialogue choice is documented on our Wuchang interactive maps.

There Is No Quest Log

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has no journal, quest tracker, or on-screen indicator for NPC questline progress. The only system is the fast travel menu at any Shrine: when an NPC has a new interaction available, their character portrait appears beside the region name.

Check this screen after every boss fight, before and after every region transition, and whenever a Shrine is rested at. A greyed-out portrait means the NPC is waiting in that area. No portrait means no active interaction — or that the questline has already been broken.

Quests fail silently. The game never warns when a trigger is missed or a questline is broken. An NPC simply stops appearing.

This makes using the interactive map's per-NPC interaction notes — not just their locations — the most reliable way to track progress.

The Four NPCs That Determine Your Ending

Four questlines are directly tied to the game's four endings. All interactions must be done chronologically at the earliest opportunity, or the questlines break irreparably:

He Youzai — first found on the lower river path at Reverent Temple. His questline spans all five chapters, ending at Capital Entrance with the Belled Pinwheel reward. Required for Dream's Sweet Deceit and Bound by Fate's Threads.

Fang Yao — first found behind the locked door in Cloudspire City. Required for Dream's Sweet Deceit and Bound by Fate's Threads. Only spawns at later locations if the Shu Silk Scarf was delivered to her at the correct point.

White-Robed Elder — first found in Shu Sanctum. At Refugee Camp, the dialogue choice "Agree" is mandatory — choosing differently breaks his questline and locks out Dream's Sweet Deceit permanently.

Red-Clad Lady — first found on a rock at Reverent Temple. Required for the Successor of the Bo ending. Exhaust all dialogue options at every location she appears.

Completing questlines for He Youzai, Fang Yao, and White-Robed Elder — plus the Demon of Obsession boss and the Ring of Samsara crafted in Bo Capital — unlocks Dream's Sweet Deceit, widely considered the true ending of the game.

The Point of No Return: Altar Gate

Speaking to the Storyteller at Altar Gate (Mt. Zhenwu) transports Wuchang to the fourth region and permanently closes Worship's Rise. Every NPC, rare weapon, Jade Pendant, and quest item in the first region that has not been collected is permanently lost.

The most commonly missed interactions before this point are Nian Suichang's full chain (from Lightzen Temple through Hillswatch to Rebel Camp) and He Youzai's early-region stops.

NPC Summons in Boss Fights

Several NPCs can be called into boss arenas once their questlines are advanced far enough. The Bone Whistle — received from Nian Suichang after the Master Raider boss fight — is the item used to summon allies.

The White-Robed Elder assists with Bo Sorcerer if "Agree" was chosen at the Refugee Camp.
He Youzai can be summoned at Monstrous Toddler — Bai Kru if his questline was followed to Bai Mansion.
Xuanyangzi can assist at The Reborn if the Jade Feather Chisel is given to him.

Some NPCs Affect Other NPCs

Questlines are not independent.

The Glut and Matchstick NPCs only appear at the Refugee Camp if the "Search for Shen Jing'an" choice was made during the Great Yonder Gang questline at Cloudspire Bazaar.
Shen Yanping (the Butler) only appears at Ferry Overlook if he, Shen Jiang'an, Glut, and Matchstick were all saved.
Fang Yao only spawns at later locations if her dialogue chain was followed correctly.
The Panda Bamboozling merchant at Lightzen Temple and Merchant locations accepts Bamboo Shoots for unique items at each of his five stops.

If Something Goes Wrong: NG+ as a Repair Run

All skills, weapons, armor, and inventory carry over to New Game Plus — quest items and Shrine activations reset.

A fully overleveled NG+ run clears in 3–5 hours, making it a viable repair option for broken questlines.

Save backups on PC (C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Wuchang\Saved) or via PS+ cloud saves, which allow multiple ending attempts in a single campaign without four full playthroughs.

Reverent Temple holds the highest concentration of questline-critical NPCs: He Youzai, Xuanyangzi, Yu Xia, the Red-Clad Lady, the Boatman, Qiao Lin, and more all make key appearances there across multiple return visits.

When you complete the Shaft Entrance, bring him the Mad Doctor’s Research Notes after you show them to He Youzai, to receive five Special Pills. After defeating Perfect Bride – Fang Ling in Bride's Boudoir at the end of the second chapter, speak to him to receive a Crystalized Red Mercury. Another item you must bring to him is the Zhenwu Temple Scripture found in the Pavilion of Knowledge. He will reward you with a Red Blood. After defeating Zhang Xianzhong in Chapter 3, speak to him again to receive a Blood of Changhong. After traveling to Bai Mansion and defeating Bai Kru in Rivulet, return to the temple and speak to him by the front door to receive a Blood of Wangdi.

In exchange, he will reward you with the Sorry Emote. Next, you will meet him in Rebel Camp, waiting to help you defeat General of the North – Ai Nengqi.

Once you find her, return to Glut and give him the *News about joining the Great Yonder Gang, then return to Shen Jing’an. Once you ask Shen Jing’an about the wedding attire, you have to visit Glut again and pick between: Search for Shen Jing’an Search for your master If you want Glut and the kids to survive, pick Search for Shen Jing’an*. In this case, Glut relocates to the house where you found the kids, and you must head back there. The second option doesn't affect the trophies/achievements, but Glut and the kids will not survive. For the first playthrough, we recommend going with the first option.

Shen Jing’anCloudspire CityShen Jing’an	Cloudspire City	Found by the fire inside the house. Speak to her first, and *Agree to join the gang* to receive the Great Yonder Antler Cap. Next, speak to Matchstick nearby, then to Glut in Cloudspire Bazaar. After you give Glut the *News about joining the Great Yonder Gang, speak to her again and Ask about the wedding attire, then head back to Glut in the Bazaar area and pick between: Search for Shen Jing’an Search for your master If you want Glut and the kids to survive, pick Search for Shen Jing’an*. In this case, Glut relocates to the house where you found the kids, and you must head back there. The second option doesn't affect the trophies/achievements, but Glut and the kids will not survive. Speak to her to receive Fang Yao’s Armor Set. *Note: Fang Yao spawns at this location only if you spoke to her* *at the entrance to Cloudspire City* *and then* *by the Shaft Entrance Shrine*.

Speak to the child and give him the Bloodied Steamed Bunny Bun, then rest at the Shrine nearby, and return to the Child, who will depart but drop the Tattered Paper near the campfire.

White-Robed ElderAvian MarshWhite-Robed Elder	Avian Marsh	Found in the small clearing past the bridge. He spawns here only if you agreed to help him in the Refugee Camp. Make sure you speak to him again and don't forget to use the whistle to call him during the fight against the Bo Sorcerer.

It spawns here only if you followed our recommendations and gave him all the items we have outlined on our interactive maps. Speak to him once, then head to the Refugee Camp Shrine to hear some people speaking about a boat in one of the tents. Return to the Child in the Jar and speak to him again to get the following dialogue options: Tell of the boat waiting at the dock Keep quiet about the boat at the dock To progress his questline, pick *Tell of the boat waiting at the dock*, and you'll get to meet him later. You'll also get three Full-Grown Red Mercury. If you keep quiet about the boat, you'll interrupt the questline. In this case, rest at the Refugee Camp Shrine, then return to the Child's location to get the Dough Figurine of Mu Guiyang and the Ceramic Jar Helmet.
TaoistAvian MarshTaoist	Avian Marsh	Found inside the tent with yellow posts on it. The NPC spawns randomly. If he is available, give him the Broken Token you found in the Bandit Cave. If he doesn't spawn, don't worry, because you won't miss any quests, important items, or collectibles.

She spawns here if you completed all the interactions we recommended and if you call her to help you defeat Zhang Xianzhong. Make sure that after the boss fight, you rest at the shrine, then speak to her, and rest again to receive the remaining parts of the Zhenwu Armor Set and a Half Vitalitus Pill.
StorytellerBamboo PathStoryteller	Bamboo Path	Found by the cave's entrance. During your first playthrough, ignore the Storyteller until you complete the Ferry Overlook area as well as Bai Mansion and Rivulet. After you clear those areas, you can progress the story by talking to him, and you will reach the Annalum in Ruins area. Warning: By interacting with him and choosing the Continue forward and I press onward dialogue options, you'll start Chapter 4, and you won't be able to return to the first area anymore. This is a very important Point of No Return.

XuanyangziBurning CaveXuanyangzi	Burning Cave	Found in the cave, sitting by the Shrine. Warning: If you are aiming to get all endings in a single playthrough via backup saving, create a backup save before talking to him. Jarful of Medicine Ending: After creating the backup save, speak to Xuanyangzi and make sure you *Hand over the Jade Feather Chisel* when asked to. In exchange, you will receive a Vitalitus Pill, and you are now ready to unlock the Bad Ending. So keep following the story and deal with The Reborn boss with Xuanyangzi's help to move to the next area. After getting to Capital Entrance, clear the area and reach the door leading to The Forbidden Lands, where you must defeat Feathery Ambition – Xuanyangzi, the final boss in the game, unlocking the Jarful of Medicine trophy/achievement. Dream’s Sweet Deceit & Bound by Fate’s Threads Endings: Now, it's time to restore the backup save and work on the other two endings. First, speak to Xuanyangzi again, but this time pick *Remain Silent*. Continue through the Burning Cavern and defeat The Reborn boss again to reach the Capital Entrance. This time around, mop the area and deal with all enemies we have marked on your way to the Depths of the Capital where you should find the red Riddle Door.
