Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: Boss Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers contains 24 boss encounters spread across all four regions of Shu — brutal skill checks that reward persistence with unique Weapons, Spells, Quest Items that unlock Armor Sets for purchase, and Bo Blood from the rarest encounters.

Several bosses are completely missable depending on NPC questline choices and exploration paths — missing them forfeits their loot and, in some cases, locks out specific endings.

All 24 boss arenas are marked on the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers interactive maps with prerequisite notes on every marker.

9 Mandatory Bosses, 15 Optional Bosses

Every boss encounter in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is classified at the defeat screen:

  • Shield of Causality — a mandatory story boss. Defeating it advances the main narrative. There are 9 of these across the five chapters.
  • Sankhara Wuchang — an optional encounter. These yield the rarest rewards but require active exploration, specific NPC questlines, or secret area access to find. There are 15 of these across the game.

Optional bosses can be missed entirely without blocking story completion. Several are so well-hidden that completing the full game without knowing they exist is common — particularly the encounters at Shrine Dwelling and Avian Marsh in the late game.

What Every Boss Drops

Boss rewards follow a consistent structure:

  • Unique item drop — a named collectible (Copper Jug, Jade Belt Hook, Shu Army Board, and others) delivered to Tao Qing or Wu Gang to unlock that boss's signature armor set for purchase
  • Weapon or Spell — each boss drops at least one unique piece of gear: Echo of Zhao Yun, Thunder's Call dual blades, Plumed Grace, and others not found elsewhere
  • Mercury (XP) — a significant Red Mercury Essence payout on first kill
  • Red Feathers — upgrade materials for further Benedictions and weapon improvements

Bosses That Affect Endings

Three optional bosses are directly tied to ending requirements:

  • Eternal Glory – Zhao Yun (Avian Marsh) — required for Dream's Sweet Deceit and Bound by Fate's Threads endings. Accessed in Chapter 5 by backtracking to Avian Dwelling after completing the Fang Yao and He Youzai questlines. His defeat also unlocks the Loyalty Armor Set by using the Worship Gesture at the glowing blue interact point beside the Tomb Shrine after the fight.

  • Demon of Obsession (Shrine Dwelling) — required to craft the Ring of Samsara — Rebirth at the altar afterward, which is mandatory for the Dream's Sweet Deceit ending. Reached by selecting "The Wheel Turns Anew" at the Riddle Gate beside the Depths of the Capital shrine. Only spawns if Xuanyangzi was NOT given the chisel AND the White-Robed Elder questline was completed.

  • Bo Magus (Underground Palace) — mandatory for most endings, but the Successor of the Bo ending bypasses it by refusing the Storyteller's help at the start of Chapter 4.

One-Chance Encounter: Bai Kru

Bai Kru at Reverent Temple is the only boss in the game that permanently disappears if Wuchang loses.

Triggered by speaking to the Boatman NPC in the early game, this optional encounter yields 5 Red Mercury Essences (2,000 Mercury total) on victory — the single largest early-game XP payout available.

If the fight is lost, Bai Kru cannot be re-encountered in the same playthrough. Back up the save file before speaking to the Boatman if the reward matters.

NPC Summons in Boss Fights

Several bosses allow NPC allies to be summoned into the arena:

  • Bo Sorcerer (Avian Marsh) — the White-Robed Elder can be summoned using the Bone Whistle if his questline was progressed at Refugee Camp ("Agree" dialogue) and the Bo Sorcerer was defeated with him previously

  • The Reborn – Dragon Emperor Zhu Youjian (Burning Cave) — Xuanyangzi can be summoned if he was given the Jade Feather Chisel earlier. Note: giving him the chisel locks out the Dream's Sweet Deceit ending — weigh the summon against the ending requirement before deciding

Notable Boss: Tang Palace Maid Appears Twice

The Tang Palace Maid is the only boss encountered twice in separate arenas — first at Buddha Cliffs (mandatory, early game) and again at Tang Emperor Palace (mandatory, mid-game).

Both are separate encounters with distinct move sets and different rewards. The guide table tracks both individually.
