Quest Items in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are a dedicated item category — stored in the Key Items inventory, used to progress side requests, unlock merchants, solve world puzzles, and access late-game content.
They span the full arc of the game, from the Festival Tokens in the opening hours to the three Beast Items in Act 3's Painting Workshop. Every confirmed Quest Item location and its delivery destination are marked on MapMaster's Expedition 33 interactive maps — the only resource that tracks both where to find each item and where to bring it.
Quest Items don't stack or function as consumables. Each is unique, tied to a specific NPC request, puzzle, or story beat, and typically disappears from the inventory once used. They split into four categories:
The Old Key is the single most consequential Quest Item in the game. Purchased from Colette (the woman in the blue tent) at the Expedition Camp in Lumière - Act 1 for 1 Festival Token — it unlocks a gate in the Old Lumière sewers leading to the Fracture Survivor journal.
Without it, the Fracture Survivor journal and the Follow the Trail trophy are inaccessible for the current playthrough.
As of version 1.5 Thank You update a backup Old Key was added to the final area, but buying from Colette in the prologue remains the reliable route. Prioritise it above all other Festival Token purchases.
Three Festival Tokens are obtainable in Lumière:
Each token can be spent at one of three camp vendors: the Old Key (Colette — highest priority), the Weird Pictos (Tom — recommended), or Gustave's Bun Haircut (Amandine — not recommended in the first playthrough, as a Token is needed in NG+ to access the Boulangerie and obtain the Baguette Weapon).
The Weird Pictos from Tom become the Augmented Aim Picto when given to Jujubree in Gestral Village.
The Light of the Beast, Shape of the Beast, and Colour of the Beast are obtained from three separate Painting Workshop locations on The Continent.
In each Workshop, platform down to a Faceless Boy, choose "We Will," receive the Beast Item, and place it on the statue below. The first Workshop (island between Stone Wave Cliffs and the Forgotten Battlefield) requires Esquie's swim ability.
The second (northwest of the Forgotten Battlefield) and third (floating isle east of Sirène) both require his flying ability.
After all three statues are activated, the barrier at the end of any Workshop opens. Inside is a second Lampmaster encounter — significantly harder than the Stone Wave Cliffs version, recommended at Level 80+.
Rewards on defeat: At Death's Door and Energising Attack I Pictos (both Level 30), Grandiose Chroma Catalysts × 3, and a Recoat. After the fight, speak to the Faceless Boy near the exit for 1 Perfect Chroma Catalyst. The full sequence also unlocks the "Noir et Blanc" trophy.
Many Quest Items exist purely as delivery items for the Friendly Nevron chain. The Resin (found in Spring Meadows, delivered to Jar), the Intact Mine (Flying Waters, delivered to Demineur), Rock Crystals × 3 (Stone Wave Cliffs, for the Hexga), Wood Boards (Esoteric Ruins, for Portier's Orb of Light — rewards Protecting Heal Picto), and Bourgeon Skins (multiple Continent locations, for the Small Bourgeon) are all in this category.
Don't sell or discard Bourgeon Skins — they drop from Bourgeon enemies across The Continent, but the first one found should always be reserved for the Small Bourgeon's request.
The full Friendly Nevron chain rewards 100 Colour of Lumina from Blanche at The Fountain.
Two Gestral quest items are also tracked: the Blue Mushroom (found in Esquie's Nest, delivered to Karatom in Gestral Village for the Pure Outfit) and the Eternal Ice (obtained from the Gargant boss on The Continent, delivered to the Grandis Merchant at Monoco's Station to unlock his full inventory).
The Uniform for Richard's Son (from Richard in Lumière, given to Jules before the Gommage) leads directly to the Crimson Uniform for Gustave.
