Clair Obscur Expedition 33: Journal Entry Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hides 49 Journal Entries across its world — glowing blue prisms that play voiced diary entries from fallen expeditioners, Verso, Renoir, Aline, and others.

Collecting all 49 unlocks the Follow the Trail trophy and achievement. Every confirmed position is tracked on MapMaster's Expedition 33 interactive maps, including the complex access routes through The Manor and the entries requiring all of Esquie's traversal abilities to reach.

What Journal Entries Are in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Journals fall into three categories.

Numbered Expedition Journals — labelled Expedition 34 through Expedition 84, non-sequentially — are diary entries from members of previous expeditions, found beside corpses or at camp remains throughout the world.

Named Journals belong to specific characters: Verso, Renoir, Aline, Julie, Simon, and the Fracture Survivor.

Unknown Journals (three total) are documents of uncertain origin found inside The Manor, accessed through separate doors across the open overworld.

Two journals collect automatically — Expedition 81 triggers when you find Jar in Spring Meadows, and Expedition 58 is given at camp after completing the Old Lumière story segment. Every other journal requires active exploration or specific unlocks.

The Fracture Survivor: The Only Missable Journal Entry

The Fracture Survivor journal sits behind a locked gate inside a large pipe in the Old Lumière sewer section, accessed later in the game via The Continent. Opening the gate requires the Old Key — a Quest Item purchased from Colette (the woman in the blue dress at the third festival stall) in the prologue festival area for 1 Festival Token.

Post-patch note: As of the version 1.5 "Thank You" update, a second Old Key was added to the final area of the game.

The Fracture Survivor journal is no longer permanently missable on the current patch. However, buying the Old Key from Colette in the Prologue remains the reliable and strongly recommended route — the backup requires reaching the late game first.

The Colour of Lumina Reward: Why Finding All 49 Matters Twice

The Follow the Trail trophy isn't the only incentive. After collecting complete Journal groups, visit Berrami — the pink-haired Gestral — in the Gestral Bazaar.

She exchanges complete Journal sets for Colour of Lumina, expanding your party's Lumina Point pools. If you're farming bonus Lumina currency for endgame builds, finishing the Journal collection serves double duty.

The Manor Journal Entries: Multi-Door Access Explained

Four Journal Entries — three Unknown and the Renoir/Aline pair — are inside The Manor, a structure whose different wings are only reachable through separate doors scattered across The Continent. Each door opens a different section:

Old Lumière door — leads to the Manor bedroom wing containing the Renoir Journal (on the nightstand, through the hedge entrance northwest of the Manor Gardens flag, left through the bathtub door).

Visages side entrance — accessed after the Chromatic Glissando boss area, leads to a Manor section containing one Unknown Journal.

The Reacher door — leads to the wing with the Unknown Journal found in the middle of a room (reached from the Ladder Area flag, lower section of the tower, turning right after the last ramp).

Manor Family Canvas — placing the canvas in the empty frame on the right side of the staircase near the Entry Hall flag unlocks the locked back room containing the final Unknown Journal.

Full Esquie ability access is required before all journals are collectable — some sit behind terrain-break, swim, or fly gates that unlock across Acts 1 through 3. The confirmed locations span:

Ancient Sanctuary, Flying Waters, Spring Meadows, The Small Bourgeon, and Esquie's Nest across Act 1 story areas
Yellow Harvest, Stone Wave Cliffs, Stone Wave Cliffs Cave, White Tree, Gestral Village, and Crushing Cavern in mid-game
Forgotten Battlefield, Stone Quarry, and Monoco's Station in Act 2
The Continent (the largest concentration — late-game areas including The Reacher, Visages, Sirene, and The Manor wings)

Talk to the Young Boy, and he will open the gate behind him (only if you talked to the upside-down statue first). Go forward on the path, and you'll soon find the Journal on the left side (in front of some stairs).
