Clair Obscur Expedition 33: Haircut Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Haircuts are one of two cosmetic systems in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — the other being Outfits. Every party member (Gustave, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, Verso, and Monoco) has multiple styles to unlock, earned through three distinct routes: Mime boss encounters, Gestral Merchant purchases, and NPC rewards tied to specific story triggers.

Two Haircuts carry timing warnings that affect 100% completion. All confirmed positions are tracked on MapMaster's Expedition 33 interactive maps, including every vendor on the overworld and every Mime in the 30 hand-drawn, exclusive area maps unavailable anywhere else.

Three Ways to Get Haircuts in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Mime encounters are the most distinctive source — optional mini-boss fights found throughout the game that reward a Haircut (and often a matching cosmetic Outfit) for the character that lands the killing blow.

There are 17 Mimes across 12 locations. Each encounter is character-specific in its reward, so which party member finishes the fight determines which style you receive.

Gestral Merchant purchases are the bulk of the catalogue. Vendors scattered across the overworld and inside area maps sell character-specific styles for Chroma.

Merchants are position-specific — Blabary sells the Artist Haircuts for Sciel, Maelle, and Lune from a fixed spot on the Continent; Delsitra sells the Gestral style for Gustave from the village bazaar; Jerijeri sells Sciel's Ponytail in Stone Wave Cliffs.

NPC and story rewards cover the remaining Haircuts. Sastro at camp gives Maelle's Gestral Haircut after returning the first Lost Gestral, and Lune's Gestral Haircut after completing Stone Wave Cliffs with the second Gestral already found.

The French Bob for Maelle in The Carousel is obtained by removing the ice around the carousel and speaking to the Grandis beside it — an environmental puzzle reward, not a fight or a purchase.

Mime Haircuts: One Drop Per Encounter

Each Mime fight gives one Haircut for the character that kills it, and Mimes don't respawn. The Baguette Haircut for Gustave drops from Spring Meadows' Mime.

The Short Haircut for Maelle comes from the Mime in Flying Waters. The Baguette Haircut for Lune drops from Ancient Sanctuary. The Baguette Haircut for Sciel comes from Esquie's Nest. The Braid for Maelle drops from the Yellow Harvest Mime.

One Mime is permanently missable: the Lumière Mime in the prologue area, found near the harbour during the Festival.

It must be defeated before leaving Lumière — it also drops the Lumière Music Record and unlocks the "A Peculiar Encounter" achievement. No other Mime in the game is missable.

Two Critical Haircut Warnings

The Festival Token warning — in the Lumière prologue, Amandine sells Gustave's Bun Haircut for one Festival Token. Up to three Festival Tokens are available during the festival: the first is given automatically, and a second can be won from Antoine's history quiz.

Do not spend all tokens on the Bun. In NG+, a Festival Token is required to access the Boulangerie and obtain the Baguette Weapon. Save at least one token for that purpose. The checklist entry explicitly flags this warning.

The Act 1 completion warning — three Gustave Haircuts are noted in the checklist below as "recommended to buy before completing Act 1": Charming (from Jumeliba on The Continent, accessible only after recruiting Esquie), Curly (also Jumeliba), and Short (from Carrabi on The Continent).

Jumeliba and Carrabi may no longer stock these styles after Act 1 is complete. Buy them during Act 1 exploration.

The Sunless Cliffs Special: The Bald Haircut

The most unusual Haircut source in the game sits in the Sunless Cliffs in Act 3, accessible only after Esquie learns to fly. Inside a small cave is a doorway of misted veil — each character enters individually for a one-on-one duel with a Mime.

Win the duel, and that character earns the Bald Haircut. Repeat for all party members.

The same encounter also drops The One Pictos — which reduces the character's HP to 1 in exchange for a massive Critical Rate bonus — making it one of the few encounters in the game that rewards both a Haircut and a build-defining Picto simultaneously.

All Haircut Locations in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The full catalogue spans Lumière - Act 1 (Festival Token and Mime), Spring Meadows, Flying Waters, Ancient Sanctuary, Gestral Village, Esquie's Nest, Yellow Harvest, Stone Wave Cliffs, The Carousel, and The Continent (which holds the largest concentration of vendor positions).

The Thank You free update added five new styles — Bun Braid (Verso), Long Double Bun (Maelle, Lune, Sciel), and Chic (Monoco) — all sold by a new Gestral Merchant north of Coastal Cave. Verso's Drafts DLC adds further Mime-reward Haircuts across its new area.

The Lost Gestral reward Haircuts for Maelle and Lune require no separate detour — they trigger automatically at camp after meeting the Gestral-count conditions.
