Scattered across The Continent in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are 9 Lost Gestrals — small imp-like creatures under the care of Sastro, a portly Gestral who sets up at your camp shortly after the expedition begins. Despite their name, they'll often insist they're perfectly fine.
Returning all nine to Sastro unlocks the Lost Gestrals trophy and the Pro Retreat Pictos — and the milestone at Gestral 4 unlocks the Paint Break ability, one of the most practically important unlocks in the game.
Every position is pinned on Expedition 33's interactive maps at exact Continent coordinates.
Lost Gestrals are hidden NPCs found exclusively on the overworld map — never inside dungeon or story zones. Interact with one, and it returns to Sastro automatically, no escorting required.
Once back at camp, speak to Sastro to claim your reward. Rewards don't auto-collect — if you've found several Gestrals without visiting camp, all pending rewards become claimable in a single conversation.
The per-Gestral rewards include Gestral Haircuts for party members, Colour of Lumina to expand Lumina Points, and Pictos. The four key milestones are:
Lost Gestrals are small — you won't spot them from a distance on horseback. Their broom-like hair pokes up above grass or around corners, giving a distinctive silhouette that's easier to recognise once you've found your first one.
More reliably: turn down the music volume in settings. When you're within range of a Lost Gestral, you'll hear a faint rhythmic whistling or humming. It's subtle under full game audio but clear once isolated.
Use this as your primary detection method when sweeping an area you suspect has one.
The Gestral near Stone Wave Cliffs is guarded by a Bourgeon miniboss that blocks the approach path. The Bourgeon does not need to be defeated — you can route around it.
This is one of only two Gestrals where an optional enemy encounter might suggest combat is required.
The first two Gestrals are accessible on foot during Act 1. Three more become reachable with Esquie's swim ability (unlocked after completing Stone Wave Cliffs).
The final three — found near Endless Night Sanctuary, below The Reacher, and on the floating island beside the Endless Tower — require Esquie's fly ability, which unlocks at the start of Act 3.
The entire collection can be completed during Act 3 without combat, making a dedicated sweep in the late game the most efficient route to the trophy.
