Silent Hill f: Red Capsule Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Red Capsules are the most abundant consumable in Silent Hill f — small red pills scattered across every area of Ebisugaoka in quantities that far exceed every other healing item combined.

Every location is tracked on the Silent Hill f interactive maps, with spawn triggers, multi-capsule stack entries, and the post-final boss cluster all documented at exact map coordinates.

With over 80 tracked entries across all eight areas, this is the most comprehensive Red Capsule resource available.

Note: This guide covers base-game Red Capsules only. NG+ and NG++ locations are tracked separately.

What Red Capsules Do in Silent Hill f

Red Capsules slightly restore Hinako's Health and current Maximum Sanity simultaneously — a dual-stat recovery that makes them the most versatile basic consumable in the game.

Their restoration per capsule is modest compared to Bandages (stronger Health recovery) or Ramune (stronger Max Sanity recovery), but their sheer abundance across the entire campaign means they function as the reliable day-to-day recovery option.

Red Capsules stack in inventory — multiple capsules share a single slot — making them inventory-efficient despite the high volume available.

Cannot Be Enshrined: The Key Restriction

Red Capsules cannot be offered at Hokora shrines for Faith. Unlike consumable food items that convert to Faith, Red Capsules have no shrine interaction option.

Their only purpose is direct consumption for Health and Sanity recovery. On the first playthrough where Hokora shrines restore Health and Sanity freely on Story difficulty, consuming Red Capsules frequently rather than carrying excess inventory is the correct approach — they cannot be converted into any other resource regardless of how many are stockpiled.

Red Capsules and Ending Restrictions

The most consequential property of Red Capsules is their impact on specific endings. Consuming any Red Capsule during an NG+ or NG++ playthrough pursuing certain endings immediately forfeits those endings for that run:

  • The Fox's Wedding
  • The Fox Wets Its Tail
  • Ebisugaoka in Silence

Three of the game's endings require a clean run with zero Red Capsule consumption. The main menu endings tab confirms which endings are still available based on whether Red Capsules have been consumed in the current run.

Since these endings are only accessible in NG+ and NG++, the first playthrough has no restriction — consume freely. From NG+ onward, picking up Red Capsules is safe, but using them locks out the above endings for that run.

The full ending requirements and playthrough strategy are in the Trophy guide and the Jizo Statue guide.

Winners Don't Do Drugs: The Trophy

The Winners Don't Do Drugs trophy requires reaching Shu's House without consuming a single Red Capsule during that run, then entering his workshop and leaving the Red Capsules found on his desk untouched — collecting the letter on the desk instead.

Red Capsules may be picked up throughout the run without penalty; only consuming them voids the condition. This trophy must be earned for each of Endings 2, 3, and 4 separately — a clean run per ending rather than once overall.

10 Red Capsules Given Automatically

The first and largest single-source Red Capsule pickup in the game requires no exploration: after completing the Fog Monster chase in Ebisugaoka, Shu gives Hinako 10 Red Capsules alongside the Capsule Case automatically.

This is documented in the guide and marks the start of Hinako's capsule inventory — an introduction to the item's narrative significance as a personal gift from Shu that becomes meaningful in the context of the ending restrictions above.

Spawn-Triggered Red Capsules and the Post-Boss Cluster

A significant proportion of Red Capsule entries across Ebisugaoka are spawn-triggered — appearing at fixed positions only after specific story milestones:

  • After returning from Shrine Path: 1 spawn in Ebisugaoka.
  • After returning from Corridors: 3+ spawns across Ebisugaoka and one after the Secret Box Puzzle in Ebisugaoka Middle School (3 scarecrow-area spawns).
  • After leaving Shu's House: 1 spawn in Ebisugaoka.
  • After returning from Main Hall: 6 spawns in Ebisugaoka across gardens, shrines, benches, and house exteriors.
  • After returning from Treasure Hall: 5 spawns in Ebisugaoka across sheds, barrels, trucks, and benches.

The post-final boss cluster is the largest single-location yield in the guide: after defeating the final boss and on the way out of the Dark Shrine through Main Hall, the large hall floor is scattered with over 14 Red Capsules across seven marked positions — individual capsules, pairs, and a triple.

All seven are accessible only after the final boss and are documented with exact map coordinates.
