The First Berserker: Khazan: Armor Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Armor is the primary build driver in The First Berserker: Khazan — nearly 70 named sets spanning every region of the game, each carrying unique stat bonuses and set abilities that activate as you equip more matching pieces.

Every individual piece's drop source and chest location is tracked on MapMaster's The First Berserker: Khazan interactive maps — all 40 hand-drawn originals, built exclusively by MapMaster and unavailable anywhere else on the open web.

How Armor Works in The First Berserker: Khazan

Armor divides into five slot types: Helm, Body Armor, Gauntlets, Leggings, and Boots — with Pauldrons appearing as a sixth slot on some sets.

Every piece carries base Defense and resistance values against status effects, plus random secondary attributes that roll differently each time the piece drops. This means the same Bard's Top can drop with meaningfully different stat lines across multiple runs.

Armor comes in four rarity tiers from random drops: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Unique. A fifth tier — Epic — is available exclusively through crafting and only becomes accessible toward the end of the game.

Set Bonuses: The Core Build System

Every named set activates escalating bonuses as more matching pieces are equipped.

  • A 2-piece bonus is usually a stat boost.
  • A 3-piece bonus often changes how a specific combat mechanic works. A 5-piece or 6-piece bonus unlocks a dedicated combat ability exclusive to that set — tied to a specific weapon type.

The Bloodthirsty Fiend Set ranked first in the community's first-anniversary poll for damage output. The Crimson Fiend Set ranked second for its Enraged effect. The Golden Armor Set ranked third.

For weapon-specific builds: Chaos-Ridden and Fugitive Mage are widely considered the strongest Greatsword sets; Faded Memories and Fallen Lord's dominate Spear builds; Unending Tragedy is the top Dual Wield set.

Sets also contain Weapons as part of their item pool — equipping the set's weapon contributes to the set piece count, making weapon choice directly tied to the armor system.

Two Ways to Get Armor: Drops and Crafting

Enemy and boss drops — every piece in the checklist is a "possible drop," meaning RNG-based loot from a specific enemy or chest at a specific location. The exact enemy and its position on the hand-drawn map are marked per entry, so you can replay the relevant mission and farm the precise encounter rather than clearing the entire area.

Bosses are among the most reliable sources: Yetuga drops the Frozen Mountain Wristguards in Mount Heinmach, the Blade Phantom drops the Soul Eater's Pants in Stormpass, and boss-exclusive Epic Materials unlock crafting for the highest-tier sets.

Crafting at Blacksmith Qazumaka — the primary route to complete sets. Each set requires a Scroll (its crafting recipe) found in the world or dropped by elite enemies or bosses, plus one or more special materials that drop from a specific boss.

Scrolls for every set are tracked in the Scroll guide, cross-referenced with the area maps where each scroll appears.

Unlocking the Blacksmith: A Critical First Step

Crafting is unavailable until Blacksmith Qazumaka is found and rescued during the bonus mission in Spider's Tomb - Blacksmith's Heirloom.

This bonus mission unlocks after completing the main Skoffa Cave mission. Until then, all armor comes exclusively from enemy drops and chest loot. Completing this bonus mission as early as possible opens the crafting system before the first major armor farming stage in the game.

As a shortcut, as you progress through the main campaign, the Merchant Danjin begins stocking Epic crafting materials for purchase with Lacrima — eliminating the need to farm specific bosses for their special materials.

This makes targeted farming far less necessary in the late game.

All Armor Locations in The First Berserker: Khazan

The earliest armor appears in Mount Heinmach (Hound Gaiters from the hidden Imperial Soldier) and Stormpass (Hound and Volk Warrior pieces from Wild Boar, Wild Bear, and chest drops).

Skoffa Cave holds the largest single-area concentration in the early game — Forgotten Warrior, Slayer, Butcher, Hunter, Bard, and Soul Eater pieces across enemies and chests.

El Ravaca Village and Nadin Quarry hold the mid-game core with Deep Shadow, Nomad, Cleric, Wanderer, Guardian, and Shredder pieces.

Rephalan Mountains introduces Crimson Fiend and Deep Shadow full-set coverage.

Late game armor concentrates in Vaisar's Hidden Chamber - Crimson Trace (Bloodthirsty Fiend, Great General, Dragonscale, Crimson Fiend), Rovelion Imperial Theatre (Dragonscale, Devourer, Fallen Lord full sets), Lake City Aldevir, Forgotten Underground Canal - Pavel's Final Words, Sentinels' Fortress - Last Sentinel, and Temple of Shadows - The Vow (complete Great General set from a single hidden room chest).

The Vitalon Residence - Birth of Evil holds the Pauldrons of Unending Tragedy — a piece from one of the game's strongest Dual Wield sets.
