Silent Hill f: Key Item Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Key Items are the objects that drive every door, puzzle, and story transition in Silent Hill f — mandatory collectibles that cannot be skipped, missed for long, or substituted.

Every Key Item across all eight areas is tracked on the Silent Hill f interactive maps, with usage destinations cross-linked from each pickup entry and difficulty-specific variants clearly flagged.

This guide covers base-game Key Items only — first playthrough entries. NG+ Key Items, including the Jizo Statue offerings, are documented in the Jizo Statue guide.

What Key Items Are in Silent Hill f

Key Items fall into three functional types.

  • Essential Keys — door keys, cabinet keys, emblem keys — unlock specific barriers and are removed from inventory automatically on use.
  • Puzzle Components — Fox Crests, Sparrow Crests, Lampshades, Portraits, Scales Plates — are gathered, combined, or placed at designated points to solve environmental Puzzles.
  • Unique Story Objects — the Brooch, the Celluloid Doll, the Capsule Case — are catalogued permanently in the Collectibles Menu and serve specific purposes across playthroughs.

Two Key Items are collected automatically without player action: the Capsule Case (added to inventory after completing the Fog Monster chase in Ebisugaoka) and the Brooch (automatically obtained on entering the Treasure Hall).

The Brooch has no function in the first playthrough — it becomes the offering for the Ancient Jizo Statue in NG++ for Ending 4.

Difficulty-Gated Key Items

Several Key Items only exist on specific puzzle difficulty settings — the same item has a different pickup location per difficulty, or only appears on one setting entirely:

  • Ebisugaoka Middle School — Main Building 2F Stair Key: Found in the basket of the rabbit hutch via the Hairpin on Story difficulty; in the blue flowers field on Hard difficulty; by the planters on the right side of a shelf on Lost in the Fog difficulty. Three different locations for the same key — the Stairwell Puzzle solution differs accordingly.

  • Ebisugaoka Middle School — Locker Room Key: Available on Story difficulty only. Found on a desk on the second row.

  • Worship Hall — Raygun: Available on Lost in the Fog difficulty only. Found in a cabinet on the ground floor and placed on an empty stand to complete the Memories Puzzle.

  • Worship Hall — Drawing of a Young Shimizu Hinako: Available on Hard and Lost in the Fog difficulty only. Found on a cabinet at the end of a corridor and placed on a stand as part of the Memories Puzzle.

  • Shimizu Residence — Yellowed Calendar: Available on Story difficulty only. Found on a round table — used to open the door to Shimizu Residence III.

  • Shimizu Residence — Black Bird and Sword Plate: Two separate difficulty-variant entries: Story and Hard version on the dining room table (third floor); Lost in the Fog version on a different table by the wall. Both are used for the My Room Puzzle.

Two Critical Collection Warnings

Shrine Path — Stone Key: The Stone Key is found on the altar inside the Shrine Vault. Before picking it up, collect every available item in the Shrine Path — once the Stone Key is in hand, the sequence to the northern Inari Statues Temple begins immediately, and there is no opportunity to explore the area properly. The guide entry for the Stone Key carries this warning, with the exact Shrine Path items to collect beforehand cross-linked.

Corridors — Stone Orb: The Stone Orb sits on an altar in the Corridors. The same principle applies — clear every collectible in the Corridors before collecting the Orb. Once it's taken, the route to the Sacred Door on the northern side of the area must be reached as fast as possible. The Stone Orb is placed in the mouth of the Fox Statue on the right side of the Sacred Door to open it.

All Key Item Locations in Silent Hill f

Ebisugaoka carries the largest variety — the Capsule Case, Bloody Key, Back Door Key, Drawer Key (unlocks a Document in a second-floor room), Key to Sakuko's Mailbox, Storehouse Key, Metal Gate Key, and Front Door Keys to Shu's House. The Key to Sakuko's Mailbox unlocks a Mailbox in the back alley — opening it yields the Spider Omamori and the A Federal Offense trophy.

Corridors contains the Storage Room Key, Inari Sculpture (placed on a cabinet pedestal to reveal a secret passage), two Fox Statues, and the Stone Orb.

Shrine Path contains the Fox Statue, Celluloid Doll, Combination Lock Dial, and Stone Key — all part of the Shrine Vault Puzzle chain.

Ebisugaoka Middle School carries the most keys per area — three difficulty variants of the Main Building 2F Stair Key, Key Cabinet and Key Cabinet Key, Old Annex Main Gate Key, Second Floor Classroom Generic Key, Locker Room Key (Story only), Hairpin (Story only), and Key to Back Mountains.

Worship Hall is the most Key Item-dense area in the game, with over 20 entries. The Fox Crest chain (Leftward, Rightward, and Forward-facing Fox Crests placed on the crane control device) yields the Tri Scale Emblem Key.

The Light Puzzle (Fox and Rabbit Statues rotated, Talon and Restraint Lampshades placed on altar lamps) yields the White Rabbit Emblem Key. Both Emblem Keys are placed in the Keyholes under the Fox Statues to open the two main hall doors. The Memories Puzzle adds the Brainiac Hero Comic alongside the difficulty-specific Raygun and Drawing entries.

Shimizu Residence carries the Propane Tube and Block of Wax (both required at the Stove to produce the Fletching Key), Portraits and Picture Frame for the Ominous Photo Puzzle, Calendar and Yellowed Calendar for two door unlocks, Scales Plate from the Scales Puzzle, difficulty-specific Sword Plates, White Bird and Fox Plate, and the Pine Tree Emblem.

Treasure Hall holds three Murals, four Fox Statues (arrowheads pulled in specific sequences), the Black Sparrow Crest, White Sparrow Crest, the Fox Mask Crest (all used for the Mural Puzzle), and the Brooch.
