Nioh 3: Samurai's Locks Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Samurai's Locks are even more numerous than Ninja's Locks — and for good reason. The Samurai Style skill tree is broader, covering every weapon type's Martial Arts, Ki management techniques, including Flux II and Ki Pulse variants, and passive combat synergies that scale throughout the entire game.

The Warring States region alone holds 46 confirmed Samurai's Lock locations. With 100+ total pinned across all areas on the Nioh 3 interactive maps, MapMaster's Samurai's Locks locations guide is the only interactive resource that tracks the complete set.

What Are Samurai's Locks and What Do They Do?

A Samurai's Lock is a currency item — each one grants exactly one Samurai Skill Point. Spend these points in the Samurai Style skill tree to unlock active Martial Arts (weapon-specific techniques), passive combat bonuses, Ki management skills, and synergies between weapon types.

They are parallel to Ninja's Locks but fund an entirely separate skill tree. Both types contribute to your regional Exploration Level, which unlocks permanent base stat increases as you hit higher tiers and eventually auto-marks all remaining collectibles at Level 4.

Same Five Sources as Ninja's Locks — With Three Exceptions

Samurai's Locks come from the same five acquisition routes as Ninja's Locks: Amrita Corpses, Chijiko drops, Scampuss rewards, boss drops, and Myth rewards.

The distribution and some specific mechanics differ:

Every Chijiko drops either a Samurai Lock or a Ninja Lock — not both. The checklist below shows which specific Chijiko gives which type, so if you're prioritising one skill tree, use the Chijiko guide to target the right ones first.

Every Scampuss similarly drops one type — chase positions in the checklist specify which.

Three access mechanics unique to Samurai's Lock entries that don't appear in the Ninja's Locks guide:

  • The cannon mechanic — one Shichijo (Bakumatsu) Samurai's Lock is inside a house blocked by a large crystal. A cannon must be fired first — the house door won't open otherwise.

  • Crystal-trapped corpse — a Kyoto Imperial Palace Crucible (Bakumatsu) Samurai's Lock is inside a corpse encased in a breakable crystal on the upper plateau. Strike the crystal to free the corpse, then loot it.

  • Post-mission gates — the Hamamatsu Scampuss and the flat stone chest near the Castle Town. Both are physically present but cannot be collected until after a mission. Don't waste time hunting them early.

The Only Hot Spring That Gives a Samurai's Lock

One Samurai's Lock is obtained by bathing in the Lake Hamana Hot Spring, found in the estate on the western coast of Lake Hamana.

This is the only Hot Spring in the game confirmed to give a Samurai's Lock as part of its first-visit reward, alongside the standard 2 Yokai Teardrops.

All other Hot Springs give only Yokai Teardrops. Don't skip the Lake Hamana estate on your first pass.

Major Boss Drops: The Guaranteed Sources

Several significant boss defeats guarantee a Samurai's Lock drop:

  • Hino-enma (Haunting Caves, Warring States) — automatic drop on defeat.
  • Baba Nobuharo (Futamata Castle, Warring States) — automatic on defeat during The Battle of Futamata Castle Main Mission.
  • Takeda Shingen (Mikatagahara Crucible) — automatic on defeat during The Battle of Mikatagahara.
  • Takeda Shingen (Saigagake Castle) — again automatic, his second encounter during The Battle of Saigagake.
  • Great Tengu (Mount Kurama, Heian) — automatic on defeat during The Age of Clans Begins.

  • Warring States: highest density across all eras — spread across Hamamatsu, Tenryu River, Tokaido, Maisaka, Haunting Caves, Lake Sanaru, Lake Hamana, Mikatagahara, Hamamatsu Hill, Iinoya, Futamata Road, and Futamata Castle.

  • Heian: Kamo Village, Mount Kurama, Funaokayama, Awawa no Tsuji, Rokuhara, Hachijo, Nishiichi, Sagano, Matsuo-taisha Shrine — including the Mujina-guarded chest in the frozen Matsuo-taisha courtyard.
