Nioh 3: Ninja's Locks Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Every point you spend in Nioh 3's Ninja Style skill tree comes from one source: Ninja's Locks — ancient hair relics scattered across all six areas of the game.

Each one grants a Ninjutsu Skill Point that unlocks active abilities, passive synergies, and Ninjutsu tool capacity in the Ninja skill tree.

With more than 100 confirmed Ninja's Lock locations pinned across Warring States, Heian, Antiquity, Bakumatsu, the Eternal Rift, and both Edo maps, MapMaster's guide is the only interactive resource that tracks all of them — all maps being accessible for free via our Nioh 3 100% completion hub.

What Are Ninja's Locks and What Do They Do?

A Ninja's Lock is a currency item — each one grants exactly one Ninjutsu Skill Point. Spend these points in the Ninja Style skill tree to unlock active Ninjutsu abilities (throwing items, stealth tools, status inflictions), passive synergies, and expanded Ninjutsu carrying capacity.

They are separate from Samurai's Locks (which fund the Samurai Style skill tree) and from Handbooks (which add entirely new skills to the tree rather than funding nodes already present).

Both Ninja's and Samurai's Locks contribute to your regional Exploration Level, which unlocks permanent base stat increases as you hit higher tiers.

Five Ways to Find Ninja's Locks

The checklist confirms five distinct acquisition routes — most players only discover three:

  • Amrita Corpses — the most common source. Corpses on ledges, in buildings, in cave tunnels, and at the end of Spirit Vein paths. The Warring States alone has 33 Ninja's Locks, the majority from Amrita Corpses in sub-regions like Maisaka, Iinoya, Lake Sanaru, and Futamata.

  • Chijiko — every Chijiko you shoot down, and pet drops either a Samurai Lock or a Ninja Lock alongside a Transformed Art. Confirmed across 19+ checklist entries — making Chijiko collection one of the fastest ways to accumulate Ninja's Locks early in each region.

  • Scampuss — petting a Scampuss after its chase sequence drops either a Samurai or Ninja Lock alongside Scampuss Furballs and Yokai Teardrops. Confirmed across 7+ checklist entries, including the Lake Sanaru, Lake Hamana, Iinoya, Nishiichi, Sanjo, and Mibu Scampusses.

  • Boss and Elite Enemy drops — Ibaraki Doji (Hachijo), Kajiwara Kagetoki (Rokuhara), Kasha in the Shichijo Armory (Beast of the Underworld Sub Mission), and Otoroshi (Sagano main boss) all drop a Ninja's Lock on defeat.

  • Mission and Myth rewards — Myths consistently reward one or two Ninja's Locks on completion. The Myth reward lists in the Myth guide identify which Myths contribute to your Ninja's Lock total.

Mujina-Guarded Chests: Attack First, Loot Second

Four checklist entries contain a Ninja's Lock inside a large chest — but opening the chest triggers an ambush from a Mujina hiding inside.

The Ryotan Temple chest (Iinoya), the mountain alcove chest (Hamamatsu Hill area), the Shichijo Abyss chest, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace chest all spawn a Mujina the moment you open them.

Don't be caught unarmed mid-animation — defeat the Mujina before collecting the Lock.

Chijiko and Scampuss: The Fastest Route to Early Locks

Rather than waiting to stumble across Amrita Corpses, systematically clearing Chijiko and Scampuss in each sub-region gives the fastest guaranteed Ninja's Lock income. Every Chijiko guarantees one Lock alongside a Transformed Art.

Every Scampuss gives a Lock alongside Furballs and Yokai Teardrops. Completing both in a sub-region before moving on generates a steady stream of points for the Ninja skill tree without relying on chest routing.

The Great Scampuss in the Eternal Rift also drops one Ninja's Lock when given enough Scampuss Furballs — the only Eternal Rift entry in the entire guide below.
