Nioh 3: Scampuss Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Pet a Scampuss in Nioh 3, and it bolts. That's the deal. Catch it, and you walk away with a Scampuss Furball, a Yokai Teardrop, and either a Samurai's Lock or a Ninja's Lock.

Do it sixteen times, and the Scampuss Enthusiast Silver trophy is yours. Every one of those sixteen is marked on our Nioh 3 interactive maps.

The Chase Is the Feature

Most Scampusses follow the same rhythm: find the cat, pet it, run after it across rooftops or up through fields, catch it at its resting spot, pet it again. Simple enough — until the chase leads somewhere useful.

The Mikatagahara Scampuss leads to the Six Jizo Statues area, with Yokai waiting at the end, you'll need to deal with before collecting.

The Nishiichi Scampuss in Heian leads you directly to the Sudama Merchant — effectively a free guided tour to a vendor most players miss.

The Mibu Scampuss in Bakumatsu ends in the courtyard behind a locked gate, where an Itsumade ambushes you alongside several other Yokai the moment the chase ends.

The Eternal Rift: Eight Cats, Zero Running Required

Not every Scampuss wants to be chased. The Eternal Rift has eight of them — spread across the hub in small groups and solo positions — and every single one can be petted on the spot. No pursuit required.

Every Furball dropped by a Scampuss except for those in the Eternal Rift feeds the Great Scampuss in the hub area, which rewards Handbooks and Ninja's Locks in exchange.

Handle With Care: The Two Timid Variants

Two open-world Scampusses behave differently from the rest. Approach them wrong and they disappear.

  • The Rokuhara Scampuss (Timid) in Gion Grove (Heian) is found between fields of tall grass. After the first pet, it doesn't run — it creeps. You must stay crouched and follow it through the grass without being spotted, tracking it until it stops on a nearby hill. Stand upright or get too close too fast, and the chase fails.

  • The Gion Scampuss (Timid) in Bakumatsu is on the upper terrace near the Shrine Walk Greatwood. After petting, it runs all the way to the northern border. The same rule applies: hide in the tall grass and shadow it rather than sprinting after it.

Two Scampusses You Won't Find Without a Myth

The Lake Hamana Scampuss doesn't exist in the world until you complete the Disaster at Lake Hamana Myth in Warring States. Only then does it spawn outside the tunnel leading to Lake Sanaru, on the eastern side of the region. Visit before the Myth, and the area is empty.

The Lake Sanaru Scampuss technically appears without a Myth — but we recommend approaching while playing the A Fierce Flame Myth, which you start in the Eternal Rift. The cat sits in front of the large Torii gate and leads you up the path to the shrine at the mountain summit.

During A Fierce Flame, this route is the Myth objective anyway — so the Scampuss chase and the Myth progression happen simultaneously.
