Nioh 3: Myth Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Nioh 3's Myths don't announce themselves — they appear at a crossroads when you speak to the right ghost, at a shrine when you clear the right enemy base, or in the Eternal Rift after reaching the right era.

With 36+ Myths spread across Warring States, Heian, Bakumatsu, and the Eternal Rift, completing every one earns the Answering to the People Silver trophy and one of the best reward pools in the game.

Every Myth is marked on our interactive maps with its full objective list, linked to each step's location, and its exact prerequisite confirmed — all available via the Nioh 3 interactive guide hub.

What Are the Myths in Nioh 3?

Myths are Nioh 3's side quest system — named narrative investigations that sit between the main story and the open-world collectible hunt.

Each Myth has a specific starting NPC or environmental trigger, a multi-step objective sequence, and a fixed reward. Unlike Sub Missions, Myths tend to span multiple locations within a region — or across multiple regions entirely — and frequently require both combat and exploration.

Completing every Myth also directly unlocks Masters, provides the only source of several Craft Guides, and introduces NPCs who then take up residence in the Eternal Rift with new services.

Three Tiers of Myth Prerequisites

Understanding how Myths unlock saves hours of searching for quest triggers that simply aren't active yet:

  • Story-gated Myths only appear after completing a specific Main Mission. Fated Land unlocks after returning from the Eternal Rift for the first time. All four major Bakumatsu Myths — Seeking Spirit Stones, Peerless Katana, Ryoma's Bequeathment, and The Rebels' Whereabouts — only unlock after completing Those Left Behind. The Great Shogun of the Heian Era unlocks specifically by starting The Battle of Saigagake and reaching the barred gate — not by completing it. The timing window is narrow.

  • World-gated Myths appear when you reach a specific location or Exploration Level. Yokai Horde Picture Scroll triggers by interacting with a corpse at an altar in Funaokayama. Shadows on the Capital is unlocked by reaching Awawa no Tsuji and clearing the Enemy Base. In Search of Eternal Youth requires reaching Sagano Exploration Level 2.

  • Myth-chained Myths require completing a previous Myth first. Headaches requires Abundant Evil. Ii's Memento requires Fated Land. Putrid Paradise requires clearing the Hachijo Lesser Crucible. Doctor's Pride requires Kiyomizu Defiled. Old Medicine, New Problems requires Doctor's Pride. A Present from Whom? requires Seeking Spirit Stones. The chain is explicit in every checklist prerequisite you can see below.

Answering to the People: The Myth-Completion Trophy

Completing all Myths unlocks the Answering to the People Silver trophy and achievement.

Nothing is missable — all Myths remain available after the story ends and are replayable through the Battle Scroll at any Shrine.

The Myths guide tracks your completion state, so the checklist below doubles as a progress tracker for the trophy.

Three Eternal Rift Myths: Starting in the Hub

Three Myths start in the Eternal Rift, not in any open-world era — players searching for their starting points in Warring States or Heian won't find them there:

  • A Fierce Flame — speak to the Fox-masked Blacksmith after completing The Hamamatsu Incident. Sends you to Lake Sanaru to collect Kagutsuchi's Magatama. Unlocks Soul Match at the Blacksmith.

  • The Value of Perfection — speak to Matsunaga Hisashide after reaching Heian. Sends you to Nishiichi to find the Gorgeous Celadon Tea Bowl. The checklist warns explicitly: the Beautiful Celadon Tea Bowl found nearby is NOT what he wants.

  • Memories in the Blade — speak to the Blacksmith after reaching Heian. Requires collecting three legendary blades: Dojikiri Yasutsuna (Hachijo), Mikazuki Munechika (Sagano), and Odenta Mitsuyo (Palace Grounds Crucible). Rewards all three blades permanently.

Cross-Era Myths: When One Quest Spans Two Time Periods

Two Myths require using the Eternal Rift to travel between eras mid-quest:

  • Seeking Spirit Stones begins in Bakumatsu with Thomas Glover, sends you to Heian to purify a corrupted barrier and defeat Ryomen Sukuna, then returns to Bakumatsu for completion. The White-Green Gemstone you receive from Himiko in Heian must be carried to Bakumatsu.

  • Old Medicine, New Problems begins in Bakumatsu with Kusumoto Ine, sends you to Warring States to find the Azure Water Buttercup with Tokugawa Ieyasu, then back to Bakumatsu with both the plant and a Tomato dropped by an Enenra boss.

All Myth starting locations have been carefully added by our team on the Warring States area map, Heian interactive map, Bakumatsu map guide, and Eternal Rift interactive map, with each step linked to its exact location pin and rewards.
