Cronos: The New Dawn: Ammo Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Ammo is the scarcest resource in Cronos: The New Dawn — and the one most likely to determine whether the Traveler survives the brutalist wastelands of Bloober Team's survival horror.

Every pickup of every ammunition type across all 24 areas is tracked at exact coordinates on the Cronos: The New Dawn interactive maps, hand-drawn originals that exist nowhere else and cover every safe room stash, dispenser, crate, and open-world surface where ammo can be found.

Five Ammunition Types in Cronos: The New Dawn

The game's five distinct ammunition types each feed a different class of Weapon.

Only 4 weapons can occupy active slots simultaneously, making ammo type selection a survival decision — carrying rounds for a weapon not in the active loadout wastes inventory space that could hold healing or Shell Patches:

  • Handgun Ammo — used by the Sword MK-1615 (starter weapon) and the Dagger. The most abundant ammo type and the easiest to craft. The Sword's Charged Shot doubles damage and pierces multiple targets simultaneously — the single most effective ammo conservation technique in the game.

  • Shotgun Shells — used by the Hammer PROV-2030 and the Mace. The Hammer's Charged Shot widens pellet spread for crowd control. The Mace holds only 2 shells per magazine — its high per-shot damage makes each shell critical.

  • Carbine Cartridges — used by the Javelin and Lance REV-1411 for rapid-fire or precision engagements. Station B and The Abbey carry the largest Carbine Cartridge concentrations, corresponding to the late-game areas where both weapons are most useful.

  • Pyre — incendiary rounds for the Pyre flamethrower attachment, tracked alongside standard ammo in this guide. Found in dispensers and safe hubs throughout the Steelworks and later regions.

  • Arbalest Bolts — the rarest ammunition in the game, used exclusively by the Arbalest heavy weapon. Each bolt occupies its own individual inventory slot. Critically: crafting Arbalest Bolts consumes Cores — the same resource used to upgrade the Temporal Shell. Spending Cores on Arbalest Bolts directly competes with suit progression. Reserve the Arbalest for bosses and reserve crafted bolts for New Game Plus.

Ammo Conservation: Three Rules That Matter

  • Use Charged Shots on the Sword. The Sword's Charged Shot deals double damage and penetrates through multiple Orphans in a line. Two charged shots into a group outperforms five standard shots at the same targets.

  • Torch before melee. Setting an Orphan on fire with Torch Fuel deals ongoing damage and reduces the bullets needed to finish it. Burn first, close the gap, finish with melee.

  • Break everything. Ammo is frequently hidden inside smashable crates and wooden boxes throughout every area. Leaving a room without breaking all destructibles is leaving ammo behind.

Crafting Ammo From Resources

Ammo can be crafted from Crafting Materials — Metal Scraps and Chemicals — at any Workstation or via the inventory menu in a safe room.

The crafting ratio produces a limited yield per resource bundle, making crafted ammo a supplement to scavenged pickups rather than a reliable main supply.

For Handgun Ammo, craft whenever Metal Scraps are in surplus. For Shotgun Shells, craft sparingly. For Arbalest Bolts, don't craft at all unless Core upgrades are already complete.

Where Ammo Is Most Concentrated

The Unity Hospital holds the largest single-area ammo concentration in the game — 20+ entries across its morgue counters, storage rooms, doctor's offices, consultation rooms, and hallways.

The Steel Production Hall and Station B each carry 15+ entries across their industrial and transit interiors.

The Abbey has significant pre-boss ammo clusters — multiple crates of every type are positioned near the final encounter, specifically for players running low. All 200+ entries are in the interactive guide below.
