Cronos: The New Dawn: Torch Fuel Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In Cronos: The New Dawn, your most important tool isn't always a weapon — it's the Torch. Torch Fuel is the resource that powers it, and knowing where every canister and dispenser sits across all 24 hand-drawn areas determines whether encounters stay manageable or spiral into something far worse.

Every Torch Fuel location is tracked at exact coordinates on the regional Cronos: The New Dawn maps — the exclusive navigational resource for this game, built from scratch by our team.

Why Torch Fuel Is Never Optional

When an Orphan is killed, its corpse stays on the ground. If a living Orphan reaches that corpse, it merges — absorbing the fallen enemy to become faster, harder-hitting, and significantly more durable.

Preventing a merge is always cheaper than fighting a merged Orphan.

A single short Torch burst on a fresh corpse costs almost nothing. Ignoring corpses costs ammunition, Shell Patches, and time.

Torch Fuel has two functions beyond the merge-prevention priority:

  • Staggering live enemies — a Torch burst interrupts attacks and creates a window to reload heavier Weapons like the Hammer or Javelin, or back away and aim a charged shot.
  • Clearing Biomass blockades — Biomass walls, doors, and organic obstructions throughout the game can be burned away with a Torch burst. Torch Fuel is the primary Biomass clearance tool alongside Pyres.

The Dispensers Are Reusable

Every Traveler's Outpost contains a Torch Fuel Dispenser — and unlike field pickups, dispensers can be used multiple times.

Return to any Outpost after clearing an area and refill from its dispenser for free before the next push. This makes Torch Fuel effectively unlimited at safe hubs and means field scarcity is purely a between-Outpost challenge.

For the "Don't Let Them Merge" trophy (burn 25 dead Orphans), farm burns near the nearest Outpost dispenser — refill, clear, return, repeat.

The Tutorial Dispenser

The very first Torch Fuel Dispenser in the game doubles as the official burning mechanic tutorial — in The Underground Station, the cave room with downed Orphans on the ground.

Crafting and Prioritisation

When no Dispenser is nearby, Torch Fuel can be crafted for 2 Metal Scraps per canister.

Always prioritise Torch Fuel over Handgun Ammo when spending Metal Scraps in a corpse-heavy area — preventing a mutation costs 2 Metal Scraps, while fighting a mutated enemy costs 5–10 rounds of Handgun Ammo minimum.

Edward Wisniewski's Essence Synergy

Edward Wisniewski's Essence — acquired automatically in the opening section — boosts all damage dealt to enemies that are currently on fire. Setting an Orphan ablaze with the Torch and then unloading a charged shot while it burns deals significantly more damage than either action alone.

In boss fights where fire is applicable — including the Unmerged Terror and Eliza encounters — the Torch + charged shot loop is the most damage-efficient combat cycle in the game.

Two Trophies Tied to Torch Fuel

  • Don't Let Them Merge — Burn 25 dead Orphan corpses. Accumulates naturally across any playthrough that consistently burns fallen enemies. The Outpost Dispensers make it trivial to farm — burn corpses near a hub, refill, and continue.

  • Fire. Spreading. — Ignite 5 enemies simultaneously with a single Torch burst. The Eliza boss fight is the optimal location — headless Orphans spawn continuously and can be kited into tight groups before one sustained Torch burst catches all five.

All Torch Fuel Locations in Cronos: The New Dawn

Dispensers are in every Traveler's Outpost across all 24 areas — one per hub, all reusable. Unity Hospital is the only area with a second field Dispenser in addition to its Outpost unit.

The Underground Station also has two Dispensers: one in the tutorial cave and one in the Outpost past the Locked Shop Door.

All Dispenser positions and the single standalone field Torch Fuel pickup (The Outskirts safehub) are in the interactive guide below.
