Code Vein 2: Sword Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Swords are the widest weapon category in Code Vein 2 — split across One-Handed Swords and Two-Handed Greatswords, and spanning every acquisition method in the game.

Two Bequeathed Formae are also tracked in this guide — the Bloodreaver Blade and Absolute Executioner — reflecting their sword-type combat profile.

One-Handed Swords vs Greatswords in Code Vein 2

One-Handed Swords are the game's most accessible weapon class — fast attack chains, reliable tracking, and strong combo flexibility. Weak attacks chain continuously as long as stamina holds.

Strong attacks vary by sword: wide sweeps, forward thrusts, or step-into-slash sequences. Most One-Handed Swords scale with Dexterity, Strength, or both, with a small number requiring Willpower for hybrid builds.

They keep you in the Quick or Normal dodge tier in most configurations, giving full mobility alongside consistent damage.

Two-Handed Swords (Greatswords) trade speed for impact. Their charge attacks and slams stagger Elite Enemies reliably and deal significant poise damage against boss fights.

The trade-off: Greatswords almost always push you into the Slow dodge tier. Rather than fighting the mobility penalty, consider equipping the Mutinous Bracer in the Defensive Slot — parrying with it compensates for the lost dodge speed and creates punish windows that rolls would have opened.

Greatswords scale primarily with Strength, making them the natural pairing for Patientia Bloodline Blood Codes.

The starting sword, Battered VK Longsword, comes pre-equipped with Phantom Assault — the gap-closer Combat Formae that defines aggressive sword play at close range.

The Ancient Hunter's Greatsword, found in the Water Treatment Plant chest before the boss area, is the best early Two-Handed Sword in the game.

Sword Scaling: Strength, Dexterity, and the Ame-no-Habakiri Exception

Most swords fall cleanly into Strength (Greatswords, heavier One-Handers) or Dexterity (lighter One-Handers, Cursed Masamune, Darkborn Blade). A few require multiple stats — the Ame-no-Habakiri needs Strength, Dexterity, and Mind simultaneously, which is what makes its Blood Code pairing so specific.

Despite "Greatsword" appearing in its display name, the Ame-no-Habakiri is classified and handled as a One-Handed Sword.

Its most valuable property comes from the Looming Slash Combat Formae it carries: an uppercut that deals heavy damage and specifically dodges incoming enemy attacks during its startup animation if timed correctly.

Used against boss sweep attacks and ground-based shockwaves, it's an offensive maneuver that simultaneously avoids damage — the closest thing to a skill-based invincibility tool in the Sword category. The Ame-no-Habakiri requires the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of the game.

Five Key Sword Acquisition Types

• Starting and story: The Battered VK Longsword is given automatically at game start in MagMell Hub. The Old Engraved Blade is obtained by speaking to Noah at the Hub elevator. The Old Engraved Greatsword is a reward from completing Noah's Request: Sunken City.

• Jadwiga's shop (post-Clifftop Cavern): Carmilla's Thorn, Ancient Hunter's Sword, and the Ame-no-Habakiri all unlock at Jadwiga's Weapon Vendor once you return from Clifftop Cavern. To access them, speak to Jadwiga while standing in the weapons room.

• VIP Pass-gated — five Swords require VIP Passes from Jadwiga's Request chain: Hanemukuro (Iron Pass), Nagimukuro (Bronze Pass), Flame Blade and Warped Blade (both Silver Pass), and Iceblood (Gold Pass). These are the most powerful base Swords in the guide and are unavailable through any other method.

• Jadwiga's Minion merchants: The majority of mid-game Swords — Machete, Zweihander, Cursed Masamune, Lost Zweihander, Nameless Sword, Nameless Greatsword, Broadsword, Dryad: Blade of the Forest Spirit — are purchased from Minions positioned across The Continent. Each Minion's stock is unique and position-specific.

• RNG enemy drops: Lost Broadsword (multiple locations, including Gorge Cave), Darkborn Blade (multiple Pioneer Castle positions), Wandering Specter's Blade (Moon Envoy road patrol), Cultist's Ritual Blade, Judgement Blade Gregory, and Tainted Sword. All RNG drop positions are flagged in the checklist.

• Post-boss unlocks (Bequeathed Formae): Bloodreaver Blade unlocks at Jadwiga's shop after defeating Josée the Blind Hero. Absolute Executioner is obtained from Craig after using the lever in Pioneer Castle's control room.
