Atomfall Phone Booths are the 14 iconic red British telephone boxes scattered across the Windscale Quarantine Zone — the only means of communication between the player and the mysterious Voice on the Telephone, one of the game's six ending-givers.
Whether to pick up or ignore them is one of the game's two mutually exclusive trophy decisions. All Phone Booth locations are documented across our interactive Atomfall maps.
These cannot both be earned in a single playthrough. The recommended strategy: complete the main playthrough without answering any phone and escape via any other ending (unlocking "Not Expecting a Call"), then create a hard save before the endgame and replay the Oberon sequence while answering phones to unlock the Operator ending on the reload.
The phone booth at the crossroads immediately outside Bunker L8 in Slatten Dale is the game's first — the booth that sets the entire Operator questline in motion.
Answering it on the way out of the starting bunker unlocks the "Oberon Must Die" Finding, the Voice's first instruction.
Players pursuing "Not Expecting a Call" must walk past this booth without interacting with it — and every subsequent ringing booth throughout the campaign.
Even following the Operator ending to completion — answering every ringing booth, returning to the starting bunker after Oberon is destroyed, accepting the gas — the Voice on the Telephone is never identified.
Rebellion's deliberate choice to leave the mystery unresolved is the game's most debated design decision. The Voice claims Oberon must be destroyed; whether it's a government handler, a foreign agent, a rival faction, or something else remains permanently unanswered.
The NPC guide covers the Voice alongside the other five ending-givers.
Casterfell Woods holds the most booths — 5 along its paths, roadsides, and riverside, reflecting both the region's size and its dense investigation threads.
Skethermoor has 4, Wyndham Village has 2, Slatten Dale has 1 (the critical first), and The Interchange has 2 — confirming the Voice has maintained communication infrastructure even inside the sealed underground B.A.R.D. facility.
