Silent Hill f NG+ Character Upgrades are the 11 Ema Plates that become available exclusively in New Game Plus and New Game Plus Plus — wooden prayer plaques that permanently raise Hinako's Health, Stamina, Sanity, and Omamori Slot capacity beyond what any first-playthrough build can reach.
Every location is tracked on the Silent Hill f interactive maps at exact coordinates, with access conditions noted per entry. First-playthrough Ema locations are in the dedicated Character Upgrade guide.
Across all three required playthroughs, 22 Ema Plates exist in total. The first playthrough yields approximately 11. New Game Plus introduces a further 10 Ema Plates locked behind Inari-sama Doors and Inari-sama Boxes throughout Ebisugaoka and the surrounding areas.
One final Ema Plate is reserved exclusively for New Game Plus Plus. All 11 NG+ and NG++ Emas are documented in this guide — the only resource that separates them from the base-game set, allowing players returning for a second or third run to find exactly what's new without re-checking locations they already collected.
For the Close to the Sun trophy, 18 of the 22 Ema Plates are required — specifically those that upgrade Health, Stamina, and Sanity.
The 4 Omamori Slot Emas do not count toward this trophy but are required for the maximum Omamori capacity of 5 slots.
The critical difference between base-game and NG+ Ema Plates is their access method. While first-playthrough Emas sit in open locations or behind spawn triggers, NG+ Emas are almost entirely locked behind Inari-sama Doors and Inari-sama Boxes — sealed containers marked with the Inari fox seal.
These remain completely unopenable during the first playthrough, regardless of difficulty.
The Brooch — shaped like a fox and received automatically at the start of NG+ — is the key that opens every Inari-sama Door and Box throughout the game.
Check the inventory at the beginning of any NG+ run to confirm the Brooch is present before beginning exploration. Without it, no NG+ Ema is accessible.
The Brooch also unlocks NG+-exclusive NG+ Documents, NG+ Inventory Upgrades, and NG+ Omamori charms from the same sealed containers — sweeping all four NG+ guide categories in a single pass through each area is the most efficient completion route.
Starting NG+ with a completed save carries several advantages that affect how quickly the Ema economy can be leveraged.
All Faith accumulated in the previous run transfers directly — Hinako can begin spending at Hokora shrines immediately without farming Offerings from scratch.
All stats upgraded via Pray also carry over, and critically the stat upgrade ceiling increases in NG+ — caps that were unreachable on the first playthrough become available, allowing the new Ema Plates to push Health, Stamina, Sanity, and Omamori Slots to their maximum values.
Inventory upgrades (bags) also transfer, meaning the full 14-slot inventory is available from the start of NG+ rather than having to collect bags again.
Ten of the eleven NG+ Emas become available from the start of New Game Plus. One Ema Plate is reserved exclusively for New Game Plus Plus — the third required playthrough.
It cannot be collected in NG+ regardless of how thoroughly the world is explored. Its specific location and access condition are documented at its map coordinate in this guide, flagged clearly as NG++-only to prevent confusion when it doesn't appear during a second run.
The 11 NG+ and NG++ Ema Plates are distributed across Ebisugaoka (the largest cluster, behind Inari-sama Boxes at locations that held standard items in the first playthrough), Corridors (behind the Inari-sama door in the western section, the same area that yields the Embroidered Drawstring Bag inventory upgrade), Treasure Hall, Worship Hall (inside the Dark Shrine Worship Hall Inari door alongside the Swallow Omamori), Main Hall, and Shimizu Residence.
Every entry includes the Inari-sama Door or Box coordinate cross-linked from the relevant Ebisugaoka or area map, with the NG++-only entry clearly flagged.
