Crimson Desert: Spear Challenge Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

There are 5 Spear Challenges in Crimson Desert — all named Sharpened Spear (I through V) and listed under the Mastery — Goyen's Advice category.

Completing the full set unlocks the Master of Spears trophy on PlayStation and the equivalent achievement on Xbox and PC.

What are Spear Challenges in Crimson Desert?

Each challenge is gated behind a Sealed Abyss Artifact placed on a stone altar or roadside shrine.

Challenge progress only counts after you physically pick up the associated artifact — collect each one first, then complete the combat objective. Artifacts appear as purple icons on your minimap when you're within roughly 50–80 metres.

Activate Guiding Light (L1+R1 / LB+RB / CTRL+Left Click) for a blue shimmer that points directly to the nearest hidden artifact. Four challenges are in Hernand, and one is in Demeniss.

Before You Start: Counter Stance and a Free Spear

Challenge 1 requires landing 15 counterattacks within 30 seconds. Counterattacks register as successful parries (L1/LB before a hit lands) — but this only works if you have Counter Stance unlocked.

Counter Stance is in Kliff's Armed Combat tree at level 3. Unlock it before attempting Sharpened Spear 1, or you'll find the challenge impossible to complete.

You don't need any specific spear from the collectible list to complete these challenges.

A free spear can be grabbed near the Haunted Hill area, just north of the "A" in "Hernand" on the map. It works perfectly for all five challenges — no need to find a named weapon first.

All 5 Sharpened Spear Challenges

• Sharpened Spear 1 — southeast of Calphade Gate, Hernand.
• Objective: Land 15 counterattacks with a spear within 30 seconds.
• Counterattacks count as performing parries while holding the spear. Stand in the middle of a group of weaker enemies and parry their attacks — if you parry within close proximity of multiple enemies, the move hits all of them simultaneously, counting as multiple counterattacks per parry.

• Sharpened Spear 2 — Nas River Greymane Shrine, Hernand.
• Objective: Hit enemies multiple times with a spear within 30 seconds.
• The spear's high attack speed and crowd reach are what this challenge is built for — use Springtide Mill while liberating the area during the Shadow Cast Over the River quest as an ideal completion location.

• Sharpened Spear 3 — crossroads north of Hook Rapids Hearth, Hernand.
• Objective: Take down 5 enemies within 15 seconds using the Stab attack (R1+Triangle / RB+Y).
• Find a group of at least 5 weak enemies — a great location is the enemy group across the road while working on saving the Woodcutter in Peril faction quest.

• Sharpened Spear 4 — western perimeter of Flame Knight's Castle, Demeniss.
• Objective: Defeat 3 enemies using jumping attacks with a spear.
• The only challenge outside Hernand — find a camp near the Castle with multiple enemies, use the aerial jump into downward spear thrust to register jumping attack kills.

• Sharpened Spear 5 — altar at crossroads next to Bradenfern Farm, Hernand.
• Objective: Defeat 5 enemies in a row with a spear while at full health.
• Important note: The in-game description for this challenge is currently worded incorrectly — the actual requirement is defeating 5 consecutive enemies with a spear while maintaining 100% health, regardless of what weapons those enemies are using. There is no time limit, so take on enemies one at a time. Eliminate any ranged enemies first to prevent accidental damage from a distance.

Fastest Completion Route

Grab all four Hernand artifacts first: Challenge 1 near Calphade Gate, Challenge 2 at the Nas River Shrine, Challenge 3 north of Hook Rapids Hearth, and Challenge 5 at Bradenfern Farm.

Complete 1, 2, and 3 while doing early Hernand exploration — all three can be finished during the same quest chain that runs through Springtide Mill and the Hook Rapids area.

Save Challenge 5 for when you have a clean patch of solo enemies and full health available. Then ride to Demeniss for Challenge 4 at Flame Knight's Castle.
