Crimson Desert: Shield Challenge Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In the world of Pywel, mastery over defense is just as critical as your offensive prowess. Shield Challenges are a specific subset of the Sealed Abyss Artifacts scattered across the continent.


These challenges are marked by purple icons on the minimap and are primarily located along the main road networks. Completing all six of the "Shield of Unchanging Will" trials is the requirement for unlocking the Master of Shields achievement.


To efficiently clear these trials, engage low-level bandit groups found near the starting regions. For consecutive block challenges, hold the guard position (LB/L1/Right Click) and allow a single enemy with a fast attack speed to strike the shield repeatedly. Make sure your stamina bar does not deplete, as a guard break will reset the "consecutive" counter.


Finding these purple icons is made easier by using the Guiding Light ability (L1+R1 / LB+RB), which creates a blue shimmer leading toward hidden roadside artifacts. Since these are the foundation for high-tier defensive Mastery, they should be prioritized early in the Greymane campaign.


Tracking for these challenges only begins once the corresponding artifact has been physically collected. Below are the locations and requirements for each Shield Challenge, which have been included on our free Crimson Desert interactive maps, complete with instructions on how to complete them.

Shield of Unchanging Will 6Hernand

The Shield of Unchanging Will 6 Challenge is unlocked by picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact on a small altar by a road and a bridge in Hernand.


Objective:

  • Land 10 hits on enemies within 1 minute with the shield using Charge.


Reward:

  • Abyss Artifact


How to Complete:

  • Charge is an ability in Kliff’s Armed Combat that unlocks at level three. While guarding, you can press X (PS5) twice to have Kliff dash forward with his shield, colliding with enemies and knocking them back.
  • This challenge appears to require hitting 10 different enemies within 1 minute, rather than striking the same enemy multiple times. Because of this, you’ll need to use it against a large group of enemies to reach 10 unique targets within the time limit.
Shield of Unchanging Will 3Hernand

The Shield of Unchanging Will 3 Challenge is unlocked by picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact on the small altar by the mountain path.


Objective:

  • Hit 3 enemies at once with a shield.


Reward:

  • Abyss Artifact


How to Complete:

  • Use Shield Bash (L1 + R2 on PS5) to strike enemies.
  • The attack has a wide arc, so grouping enemies together before using it will let you hit multiple targets at once.
Shield of Unchanging Will 2Hernand

The Shield of Unchanging Will 2 Challenge is unlocked by picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact on a small altar by the road.


Objective:

  • Block 10 arrows with a shield.


Reward:

  • Abyss Artifact
  • Faded Abyss Artifact


How to Complete:

  • While holding L1 (PS5) to block with a shield, you can deflect incoming arrows. Successfully block a total of 10 arrows in this manner to complete the challenge.
Shield of Unchanging Will 1Hernand

The Shield of Unchanging Will 1 Challenge is unlocked by picking up the Hernand Sealed Abyss Artifact on the altar by the road leading to Hernand Castle.

Objective:

  • Defeat 3 enemies with a shield.


Reward:

  • Abyss Artifact


How to Complete:

  • To wrap up this Challenge, you’ll need to turn your defense into an attack.
  • Start by holding L1/LB to raise your shield, then tap R1/RB to execute a bash that strikes the enemy directly.
  • Repeat this process until you have defeated three foes using the shield bash method.
Shield of Unchanging Will 4Hernand

The Shield of Unchanging Will 4 Challenge is unlocked by picking up the Hernand Sealed Abyss Artifact east of Embernest Beacon.


Challenge Set:

Objective:

  • Defeat 5 enemies with a shield without taking damage.


Reward:

  • Abyss Artifact
  • Faded Abyss Artifact


How to Complete:

  • To complete this Challenge, you’ll need to turn your defense into an attack.
  • Start by holding L1/LB to raise your shield, then tap R1/RB to execute a bash that strikes the enemy directly, or R2/RT to bash into small groups.
  • The best spot to complete this challenge is the Kuku Bird's Nests nearby. Simply defeat the Kuku Birds patrolling the area around the nest.
