In Crimson Desert, your proficiency with a blade is a literal requirement for survival. Sword Challenges are specialized combat trials that act as the primary catalyst for unlocking Kliff’s advanced melee potential and mastering the game's intricate parry-and-counter system.

Unlike standard weapon refinements that focus on raw damage stats at a smithy, these challenges test your technical execution in the field.

From the early "Sword of Trials" markers in the Hernand region to the prestigious Master of Swords trophy, completing these trials is a great way to earn the points needed to unlock new skills.

To initiate a challenge, you must find a Sealed Abyss Artifact on a roadside altar or a Greymane Shrine. Interacting with the artifact triggers a localized objective—ranging from landing five perfect parries to defeating a group of enemies without taking a single hit—that must be cleared to shatter the spectral seal.

Once the task is finished, the Sealed Abyss Artifact is officially collected, contributing to your overall character progression.

Note that these markers are invisible on the main world map by default; however, a distinct purple icon will appear on your minimap when you are in proximity.

A crucial strategic tip for any completionist is to use your sword’s Guiding Light (L1+R1 / LB+RB) while traveling between hubs. The blue pulse will pinpoint hidden altars from a distance, ensuring you don't miss a single roadside trial during your journey through Pywel.
