Crimson Desert: Shield Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

There are over 34 Shields in Crimson Desert — Kliff's primary off-hand equipment and the foundation of the sword-and-board playstyle that starts the game.

How Shields Work in Crimson Desert

All shields provide additional bonuses to Defense. This is a one-handed piece of equipment, so it is often paired with a one-handed sword.

The sword and shield combo is also the starter setup for Kliff in Crimson Desert. Equipping any shield unlocks access to the Shield Bash and advanced parrying mechanics, regardless of which shield type you use.

The Abyss Gears socketed into a shield matter more than raw Defense values — a shield with strong pre-fitted effects consistently outperforms a higher-Defense shield with empty sockets.

Small Shields vs Large Shields: Which Should You Use?

The core distinction is speed vs defence. Small and medium shields are better for parrying to disarm enemies — block, get hit, then parry to strip the weapon.

On large shields, you can hold CTRL/L3 for a perfect block against boss attacks that would otherwise break through.

Standard shields (round, kite, ornamental) are faster, preserve more Attack Speed when equipped, and make parry windows easier to execute — the preferred choice for aggressive sword-and-board builds that want to parry often and counter quickly.

Large shields sacrifice movement and attack speed for significantly higher Defense and the perfect block ability — the recommended choice for boss fights and survival-focused builds.

Since switching weapons mid-combat is free, many players carry both types and swap contextually.

The Best Shields in Crimson Desert

The best shield overall is the Drake Shield, which comes with the Draconic Retribution skill — dealing fire damage that gains charges every time you block three attacks.

It provides balanced defence and movement speed. Obtain it after defeating Tristan the Flame Knight and liberating Flame Knight Castle during the Flame Knight faction quest of House Azerian (Demeniss region).

For pure defensive power, the Shield of Conviction delivers DEF 8 with Aegis I and Fortitude I built in, making it the highest-base-defence shield available to players well before the endgame.

It's found inside the Church of Calphade Treasure Chest, in the tower (Hernand).

The Staglord's Shield is the best pick for players who want both defence and offensive momentum — Attack Speed Lv. 2 is rare on a shield and directly shortens your recovery after blocking, letting you transition into counters faster than any other option at this stat bracket.

How to Get Boss-Drop Shields

Two shields drop automatically from story bosses and cannot be found anywhere else.

The Shield of Betrayal drops from Cassius Morten at the end of Chapter 6 — confirmed in the checklist as an automatic reward.

The Staglord's Shield drops from Saigord, the Staglord, during the King of the Fallen Kingdom faction quest — also automatic on defeat.

The Drake Shield is obtained through the Flame Knight faction quest in Demeniss as described above. All three are among the strongest shields in the game.
