Crimson Desert: Abyss Gear Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Crimson Desert Abyss Gears are socketable modifier orbs — described in-game as "refined manifestations of the Abyss's volatile power" — that slot into your weapons and armor to grant stat bonuses, elemental effects, and unique active abilities.

They are the game's primary build customisation layer: since most equipment offers broadly similar base stats regardless of when you find it, Abyss Gears are what make your loadout distinct and let you carry favourite effects into better gear as you upgrade.

Unlocking the System

The Abyss Gear system unlocks during Chapter 3 of the main story — you will not encounter it in the early hours of the campaign.

In Chapter 3, after completing the Abyss Without Balance quest, a white crow delivers a letter, triggering "The Hermit Witch."

This quest sends you to Shadow's Whisper Cave north of Hernand to meet Sylvia, your first Witch vendor.

A second Witch, Elowen, becomes available in Chapter 5. There are five Witches total across Pywel — one per region — and each provides the same core services.

How Sockets Work

Weapons and armor do not come with open sockets by default. Every socket must be created individually at a Witch for a silver cost.

The three services available at every Witch are:

  • Create Socket — opens a new socket slot on a weapon or armor piece, paid in silver
  • Embed Abyss Gear — slots an Abyss Gear into an open socket, free
  • Extract Abyss Gear — removes an Abyss Gear from any piece of equipment, free with no penalty

Since embedding and extracting are always free, there is never a cost to changing your build — move Abyss Gears freely between pieces as your equipment evolves.

You can also use un-equipped gear as storage: socket Abyss Gears into pieces you aren't wearing to hold 3–5 extra gears per item.

What Cannot Be Socketed?

Cloaks, Rings, Earrings, and Necklaces cannot have sockets created on them at all.

Don't spend silver attempting to socket accessories. Socket limits by item type range from 1 slot (headgear) up to 5 slots (two-handed weapons).

Check your gear's maximum socket count before spending silver on socket creation.

How Abyss Gears Activate

Attack and critical rate gears on weapons only activate when that weapon is actively in hand and in use.

Defence gears on armor apply universally regardless of which weapon you're holding. After any gear change, check your stats panel to confirm the values are actually updating.

How To Get Abyss Gears

Abyss Gears drop from world-found equipment, Witch vendors and Back Alley Shops, dungeon chests, and boss encounters.

Critically: inspect every new weapon or armor piece you find — many come with Abyss Gears already embedded.

Take them to a Witch and Extract immediately to recover the gear before discarding or selling the item.

The checklist below covers some explorable Abyss Gear locations across MapMaster's maps, including dungeon chest drops from the Ethereal Pathway and Roots of Truth and vendor purchases in Hernand.

Upgrading With Synthesis

At any Witch, select "Craft Abyss Gear" then press R2 (PS5) or RT (Xbox) to enter Synthesis.

Combine two Abyss Gears of the same name and tier to produce one gear of the next tier up.

Some gears require a Blueprint before they can be crafted — Blueprints are purchasable from Witch vendors or found as quest rewards.
