Borderlands 4 (BL4): Vault Symbol Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Vault Symbols are the iconic glowing graffiti collectibles returning to Borderlands 4 after being absent from Borderlands 3 — 46 Vault glyphs spray-painted across Kairos's walls, cliffs, hidden rooms, ventilation shafts, Order installations, and cave ceilings.

Every symbol awards 5 SDU tokens on interaction, totalling 230 SDU tokens across all 46. Finding every single one completes the Myth of the Vault challenge, awarding an exclusive Weapon Cosmetic alongside XP, Eridium, and cash. Every symbol's exact position is tracked at precise coordinates on the Borderlands 4 interactive maps.

Note: The Myth of the Vault is a Collectibles Challenge, not a PlayStation or Xbox trophy or achievement. Completing it unlocks the weapon cosmetic in the Challenges menu but does not register on any external achievement tracker.

What Vault Symbols Are in Borderlands 4

Vault Symbols are glowing Eridian glyphs painted directly onto surfaces throughout Kairos — introduced in the original Borderlands as one of the franchise's signature collectibles and now restored in their fourth mainline appearance.

Like ECHO Logs, Vault Symbols reveal themselves on the in-game map as blue icons when you enter proximity — switching to green after interaction. The in-game map can be filtered to show only Vault Symbol icons, allowing systematic area sweeps without visual noise from other collectible types.

Unlike lore collectibles, every Vault Symbol provides an immediate, practical reward. The 5 SDU tokens per symbol are earned instantly on touch — no menu visit required. The 230 total SDU from all 46 symbols represents one of the largest single-collectible SDU contributions in the game.

Where Vault Symbols Hide

Vault Symbols consistently follow three placement patterns:

• Elevated surfaces — on top floors of multi-storey buildings, on cliff ledges reached by grapple and glide, on the sides of drill machines climbed by arm, or high on cave walls accessible only by jumping between platforms and scaffolding

• Hidden rooms and passages — inside ventilation shafts (grapple the lid to open), behind waterfalls, inside caves unlocked by defeating all enemies in an area, or through vents crossed during story missions

• Unexpected surfaces — on the outside walls of Order Silos (the Site Unseen silo in Tonnage Peel has one on its side wall, interactable from the ledge below), on cliff-face wreckage reachable only via the Deathright Order Silo zipline in The Low Leys, and behind capsule-opened doors

Mission-Gated Vault Symbols

Three Vault Symbols are only accessible during or after specific missions:

• Dissected Plateau — found inside Zadra's room, only accessible during the A Lot to Process Main Mission. Cross through the vent at the back of the corridor to reach the room and interact with the symbol behind the chair before exiting.
• Carcadia District — inside an alcove area only opened during the Price of Freedom Side Mission. The area can be returned to after the mission is complete.
• Terminus District — behind a sewer gate that only opens after completing the Old Lads Side Mission.

The Most Efficient Collection Strategy

Pair Vault Symbol sweeps with Vault Fragment hunting and Order Silo captures — the routes overlap significantly.

Symbols are placed along the same elevated terrain and off-path exploration that fragments and silos reward, so a combined sweep of any region collects multiple collectible types simultaneously.

The densest single-area concentrations are:

• Cuspid Climb — 4 symbols (most of any single area): cave behind waterfall at mountain top, ice wall inside large cave via drill arm climb, Order building wall, and rock face by mountain wall
• Ruined Sumplands — 4 symbols: isolated ruined building top floor, tall rock jump from nearby cliff, wall next to rusty pipe under cliff, and wall next to mattress under brown tarp
• Coastal Bonescape — 3 symbols: tall building stairwell, intermediate floor, mountain wall, and building rooftop with nest
• Stoneblood Forest — 3 symbols: mountain base near flag, building roof dropped from cliff above, and cave wall behind waterfall via metal platform jump
• Tonnage Peel — 3 symbols, including the Order Silo exterior wall entry
• Moon-Called Throne, Idolator's Noose, Grindstone of the Worthy, Hungering Plain, Dissected Plateau, Fortress Indomita, Elpis Orbital Shatterfield, Umbral Foundry, Carcadia District, Terminus District, Fades District, and Upper Dominion — 2 symbols each
