Borderlands 4 (BL4): ECHO Log Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

ECHO Logs are Borderlands 4's primary lore collectible — 156 audio recordings scattered across every area of Kairos, capturing the recorded thoughts and messages of the planet's inhabitants, resistance fighters, Order soldiers, and key story characters.

Every ECHO Log location is tracked at exact coordinates on the BL4 interactive maps, with mission prerequisites and area collectible status noted per entry.

Collecting all 156 that count toward the Kairos Speaks challenge unlocks the exclusive DECO-4 Frame cosmetic for your ECHO-4 drone companion, alongside a significant reward of XP and Eridium.

Three Types of ECHO Logs in Borderlands 4

Understanding which ECHO Logs count — and which don't — prevents frustrating dead ends when hunting the full 156:

General ECHO Logs are found freely in the overworld on surfaces, ledges, chairs, crates, and rooftops throughout every region. Every General ECHO Log counts toward both the area's collectible completion percentage and the Kairos Speaks challenge total. These are the majority of the 156.

Mission ECHO Logs (counting) are found exclusively during Side Missions — they don't appear in the world outside of their associated mission window, but they do count toward the Kairos Speaks challenge total.

25 of the 45 Mission ECHO Logs fall into this category. Missing these by completing a mission without picking them up is the most common reason players end up at 154 or 155 instead of 156. Every Mission ECHO Log in this guide carries the name of its associated Side Mission, so the window is clear before starting.

Mission ECHO Logs (non-counting) are collected during missions but appear separately in the inventory and do not contribute to the Kairos Speaks challenge count or area completion percentages. These are noted in the guide with the annotation "doesn't count as an area collectible."

In total, 224 ECHO Logs exist across Kairos — 156 count for the challenge, 68 do not.

The In-Game Proximity System

ECHO Logs don't appear on the in-game map by default — but when Hinako walks near one, it automatically marks on the map as a nearby collectible.

This proximity reveal system means thorough exploration of each area will surface most General ECHO Logs naturally. Mission ECHO Logs are the exception: they only appear during their associated Side Mission, making them invisible to the proximity system on any visit outside that window.

The interactive guide below tracks all 156 at their exact locations, so no log relies on the proximity system to be found.

Maurice's Log: The Known Bug

One ECHO Log — Maurice's Log — is currently bugged on first characters and cannot be obtained during a standard first playthrough. It only becomes available when starting a new character in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode after beating the game.

Players at 155/156 ECHO Logs, with everything else collected, are almost certainly missing Maurice's Log.

To complete the Kairos Speaks challenge on a first character, a save editor workaround exists via the community, or the challenge can be completed on a new UVH character and the DECO-4 Frame reward claimed there, after which it is available on all characters.
