Survivalist Caches are gear-filled containers hidden exclusively within The Fadefields region of Borderlands 4.
All 10 Survivalist Caches are in Kairos's opening region — none appear in Carcadia Burn, Terminus Range, or Dominion — and finding every one is required for 100% Fadefields completion.
Completing all 10 also unlocks the Cache to Spend challenge, awarding the Never Say DIY weapon skin alongside generous XP, cash, and Eridium. Every cache is tracked at exact coordinates on the Borderlands 4 interactive game maps.
Each Survivalist Cache holds a substantial assortment of weapons, shields, and equipment — primarily uncommon and rare gear with occasional epic drops — all scaled to the current Vault Hunter's level at the time of opening.
Every cache also awards 10 SDU tokens on opening. Collecting all 10 yields 100 SDU tokens in total, a meaningful early contribution to storage upgrades.
Survivalist Caches are valuable early-game finds but also useful mid-game if deliberately delayed — unlike Red Chests, which reset on every game session, each Survivalist Cache can only be opened once per campaign.
Since loot scales to level, waiting until the current loadout falls behind provides better gear on opening. Mark the location and return when the upgrade would have more impact.
Survivalist Caches don't open like standard chests. Each one has a small latch on the side panel — on either of the container's short sides near the top — that must be interacted with first before the cache opens.
If the interact prompt isn't appearing from the front, walk around the container and look for the latch on the sides. Once found, interact with it to kick the cache open.
Most Survivalist Caches are off the main path: in underground bunkers, behind hidden entrances requiring a sewer pipe or cracked wall to enter, inside enemy-controlled caves that must be cleared before a locked door opens, and on elevated platforms accessible only via grapple.
When the in-game map shows a nearby cache icon but the container isn't visible, look up or down — Survivalist Caches frequently require climbing to an attic, dropping into a concealed shaft, or entering a subterranean room through a floor-level entry that isn't visible from ground level.
All 10 caches are distributed across the four Fadefields areas:
All 10 locations with exact coordinates are in the guide below. For other Fadefields collectibles tracked alongside the caches, see the Vault Symbols guide covering the same region.
