Borderlands 4 (BL4): Lost Capsule Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Lost Capsules are Borderlands 4's most physically demanding collectible — 20 supply caches left behind by Claptrap during his many misadventures across Kairos, each requiring a walking escort to a Decrypt Station rather than a simple pickup.

Every Lost Capsule location and its nearest Decrypt Station are tracked on the interactive maps for BL4.

Decrypting all 20 completes the Capsule Capturer Challenge, awarding a unique Weapon Cosmetic alongside a generous payout of XP, Eridium, and cash on top of the per-capsule rewards.

What Lost Capsules Are in Borderlands 4

Lost Capsules are glowing, indestructible containers scattered across Kairos's open world. Like Evocariums and other collectibles, a Lost Capsule reveals itself on the in-game map as soon as you enter proximity — the icon turns blue when nearby.

Claptrap also provides audio confirmation the moment you approach one, letting you know a capsule is close before it appears on the minimap.

Once picked up, the HUD automatically generates a waypoint to the nearest Safehouse or Faction Town with a Decrypt Station, so the destination is always clear.

The capsule can be picked up either by interacting directly or by using the grapple hook to retrieve it from a distance.

What Carrying a Lost Capsule Restricts

Carrying a Lost Capsule occupies one hand and imposes significant combat limitations. While holding one:

  • Combat is restricted — you fight with one hand, significantly reducing effectiveness
  • Action Skills cannot be used — your action skill is disabled for the duration
  • Grenades cannot be thrown — your offhand is occupied
  • No vehicles — entering a vehicle instantly drops the capsule at your current position. The capsule does not return to its original spawn point — it drops exactly where you were when you entered the vehicle. Return to that spot to retrieve it.
  • No Fast Travel — activating a Fast Travel point immediately drops and loses the capsule at your current position

The capsule can be temporarily set down to perform complex jumps, cross gaps, or re-engage enemies — use the grapple hook to retrieve it afterward.

Throwing the capsule forward across a gap and grappling after it is the recommended technique for traversing platforming sections while carrying.

Unlocking Safehouses Before Collecting Capsules

The most efficient approach is to unlock the Fast Travel Station network in each area before collecting its capsules.

Every Lost Capsule is placed within walking distance of a Decrypt Station — but "walking distance" can involve significant traversal.

Knowing exactly where the nearest Safehouse is before picking up the capsule prevents unnecessary backtracking and reduces combat vulnerability time.

Decrypt Station Rewards

Decrypting a Lost Capsule at a Safehouse or Faction Town machine rewards:

  • 15 SDU Tokens — guaranteed, per capsule, every time. Total across all 20: 300 SDU Tokens
  • Randomised loot bundle — typically a handful of green-rarity items, a couple of blue items, and cash. Loot quality scales with level, making later capsules progressively more useful
