Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: Tempering Needle Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Tempering Needles are the tools that power Wuchang: Fallen Feathers' Temperance system — a combat mechanic that temporarily enhances Wuchang's equipped Weapon with elemental attack effects, status buildup, or raw stat boosts for the duration of each Tempering activation.

There are 7 Tempering Needles with fixed acquisition points across Shu — all from defeating Inner Demons or bosses.

No trophy requires collecting them, but the system meaningfully amplifies combat power for the game's hardest Boss encounters. All 7 are marked within the wider context of MapMaster's 50 hand-drawn Wuchang: Fallen Feathers area charts.

How the Tempering System Works

Tempering unlocks after defeating the first boss — Master Raider – Man-Eating Dhutanga at Lightzen Temple. Dhutanga drops the Bone Needle – Flame, which activates the Temperance menu at any Shrine. The process:

  1. At a Shrine, open the Temperance menu and slot Needles into Acupoints
  2. The Yangchi Acupoint accepts one Bone Needle — this determines the primary elemental effect (Flame, Frostbite, Lightning, Corruption, Blight, Leech, Feathering, etc.)
  3. The Huizhong, Tianjing, Xiaoluo, and Jiaoliao Acupoints accept Stone Needles — these provide supplementary buffs while Tempering is active
  4. After equipping Needles, the Temperance consumable appears in inventory — assign it to a quick slot
  5. During combat, activate Temperance from the quick slot to apply all Needle effects to the current weapon for a limited duration

Two Acupoints start unlocked (Yangchi and Huizhong). The Tianjing and Xiaoluo slots are unlocked via Alteration Nodes in the Impetus Repository. The fifth slot, Jiaoliao, requires the Cyan Feather Chisel dropped by Eternal Glory – Zhao Yun.

Two Needle Types and Their Roles

Bone Needles — socketed in the Yangchi Acupoint only. The Bone Needle equipped here determines the primary effect: Flame adds Fire attack and Burn buildup; other Bone Needles add Frostbite, Paralysis, Corruption, Blight, Leech (health drain), Magic, or Poise Break.

Most Bone Needles are unlocked through Rapid Temperance nodes in the Impetus Repository — only the Bone Needle – Flame from Dhutanga is a direct world find. Note that some weapons are only compatible with specific Bone Needles; always check compatibility before activating.

Stone Needles — socketed in all other Acupoints. Rather than determining the effect type, Stone Needles strengthen the active Tempering with additional power:

  • Shadow Stone Needles (Agility, Strength, Feathering, Magic) — increase the weapon's Attribute Control for the matching stat during Tempering
  • Root Stone Needle – Status — increases status buildup caused by the active Tempering effect
  • Plumbed Stone Needle – Temper — increases the attack power boost granted by active Tempering
  • Everlight Stone Needle – Continuity — increases the duration of each Tempering activation

6 of 7 Needles Come From Inner Demons

Six of the seven Tempering Needles in this guide are drops from Inner Demons — the same encounters that drop Bo Blood.

Each fixed Inner Demon across Shu drops both a Bo Blood and a Stone Needle simultaneously on defeat. The seventh (Bone Needle – Flame) is a mandatory first-boss drop.
