Budding Red Mercury is the lowest-tier consumable XP item in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers — a world pickup that safely stores a fixed amount of Red Mercury, the game's levelling currency, until it is spent at a Shrine.
Every confirmed pickup across Chapter 1 and the opening of Chapter 2 is tracked at exact coordinates on the Fallen Feathers interactive maps — 50 hand-drawn plans built by MapMaster's team.
Red Mercury is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers' equivalent of Souls or Runes — collected from defeated enemies, it accumulates as a floating counter that is partially lost on death, with the Madness mechanic increasing the amount dropped.
Budding Red Mercury sidesteps this loss entirely: items in inventory are not dropped when Wuchang dies. The amount stored is safe until consumed.
Each Budding Red Mercury item yields between 100 and 400 Red Mercury, depending on the specific variant. Three sub-variants exist — a common yield of approximately 100, a mid yield of 200, and a rare variant yielding around 400.
All three appear as low-tier pickups in the guide below. To use them, open the inventory and consume the item directly, or hold them in reserve and use them at a Shrine immediately before levelling.
Budding Red Mercury is the first of six consumable Red Mercury tiers, each tied to a specific chapter of the campaign:
Higher tiers yield dramatically more Red Mercury per item. Finding and carrying a Crystalized Red Mercury late-game is a meaningful safety net — losing it to death is impossible since items are death-safe.
Two Budding Red Mercury pickups at Lightzen Temple are guarded by Jar Demons (Zhugangs) — ceramic pot enemies disguised as environmental objects that shatter and attack as soon as Wuchang approaches the item. Both are flagged in the guide entries:
In both cases, sweep the area for suspicious ceramic pots before approaching the item and trigger the Jar Demon on your terms with a preemptive strike.
One Budding Red Mercury at Reverent Temple is story-gated — it spawns on the ground in front of the bell tower only after Commander – Honglan is defeated at Tang Emperor Palace.
It is not present on the first visit to Reverent Temple and cannot be collected before that boss fight.
Cloudspire Outskirts holds the most entries — 7 pickups across the village houses, towers, balconies, and open ground, including one inside Huang Jian'e's house and one on a broken table behind an elite soldier.
Lightzen Temple carries 5 entries, including the two Jar Demon ambushes. Buddha Cliffs has 4 entries across tunnels, stone beams, and cave areas. Mercury Workshop carries 3 entries — two inside purple corruption clouds requiring Frostbite or Corruption resistance to safely approach.
Bandit Cave has 2 entries — one in a purple corruption cloud on the terrace. Mort Grotto carries 2 entries, both near feeding demons requiring combat engagement to reach.
All entries with exact surface positions and hazard notes are in the interactive guide below.
