Nioh 3: Kodama Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Of all 1,009 collectibles in Nioh 3, Kodama are the ones worth prioritising first. They increase the amount of Elixirs restored at Shrines when you respawn and grant Kodama Blessings that can be activated at Shrines for permanent buffs — making every Kodama you find a direct survivability upgrade that compounds across the entire playthrough.

With 92 Kodama hidden across Warring States, Heian, and Bakumatsu, finding them all unlocks the Kodama Leader Silver trophy. Every one of them is marked with exact traversal instructions on the Nioh 3 interactive maps, available on our 100% completion guide hub.

Why Kodama Are the Most Useful Collectible in Nioh 3

These are the most useful collectibles to gather because they increase the amount of Elixirs restored at Shrines when you respawn and grant Kodama Blessings for permanent buffs.

Each Kodama you guide home awards Kodama Merit — spend it at the Shrine menu to unlock blessings that buff Amrita gain, item drop rates, Elixir effectiveness, and Glory gain.

The Elixir increase stacks per Kodama, meaning the more you collect, the more healing charges you start every encounter with. These upgrades quickly add up to being quite helpful — having more Elixirs makes the game significantly easier, so it's worth finding all Kodama as you play through rather than leaving them for a cleanup run.

How to Find Hidden Kodama: The Four Most Common Hiding Spots

Most Kodama fall into one of four categories:

  • Wells — several Kodama are trapped inside wells and won't come out until you hit the stone or rock at the well's edge. The Hamamatsu well, the Gion well, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace well all work this way — look for a small rock by the well rim and strike it.

  • Rooftops and elevated structures — many require climbing bent pine trees, crossing fallen logs, using Ninja Style to scale exterior walls, or dropping from mountain paths onto lower rooftops. Check every building for an accessible climbing route before moving on.

  • Breakable objects and paper panels — some Kodama are hidden behind breakable crates, closed stable booths (hit the wall), rice paper panels at corridor ends, or inside holes in walls. When a room feels unusually enclosed, look for something destructible.

  • Enemy Base interiors — several Kodama wait inside an Enemy Base and cannot be interacted with until all enemies are cleared. The Tokaido, Tenryu River, Funaokayama, Hachijo, Lake Sanaru, Shichijo, and Mibu bases all contain a Kodama inside their perimeter.

Ninja Style, Water Sprints, and One Essential Tip

One Warring States Kodama sits on a small rock island in the Tokaido pond — surrounded by water. Ninja Style enables water-surface sprinting, which is the only way to reach the island without falling in.

Switch to Ninja Style before approaching any body of water where you suspect a Kodama.

Myth and Mission-Gated Kodama: Three to Watch For

The Hamamatsu Hill Kodama (Warring States) sits on a ledge that only becomes accessible after you activate Ii's Memento Myth.

The Lake Hamana Kodama is locked inside a cell under Horie Castle — you need the Cell Keys from the courtyard corpse first.

The Shimabara Kodama (Bakumatsu) is inside a house only accessible after completing the Beast of the Underworld Sub Mission and then firing the cannon at the crystal blocking the courtyard entrance.

All 92 Kodama Locations by Era

Warring States is the largest era with the highest Kodama density, distributed across the Tenryu River, Tokaido, Hamamatsu, Maisaka, Lake Sanaru, Mikatagahara, Hamamatsu Hill, Lake Hamana, Iinoya, Futamata Road, Futamata, and the Haunting Caves.

Heian has 49 Kodama across Mount Kurama, Kamo Village, Funaokayama, Awawa no Tsuji, Rokuhara, Hachijo, Nishiichi, Sagano, and Palace Grounds.

Bakumatsu covers Shimabara, Shichijo, Shijo, Mibu, Nijo Castle, Gion, Kiyomizu, Shirakawa, and Kyoto Imperial Palace.
