Mafia: The Old Country: Locked Box Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide
In Mafia: The Old Country, Dinari is how Enzo Favara survives. Weapons, ammunition, gear, and the Rosary upgrades that unlock additional Bead slots all run through Pasquale's Store — and the fastest way to fund that spending is cracking the 39 Locked Boxes and 5 Safes scattered across Sicily.
Every location is featured on MapMaster's in-game Mafia: The Old Country map, with Safe combinations and approach notes included for each.
Locked Boxes: Knife Required, Sharpness Lost
Enzo pries Locked Boxes open with his knife — no key needed. The trade-off is immediate: each pried lock significantly dulls the blade. A dull knife disables silent stealth takedowns, which changes the dynamic of any mission where you planned to move quietly.
Keep a Whetstone in the quick-use slot before entering areas with multiple boxes, or equip the Ingegnoso Bead to sharpen faster after each looting attempt.
Chapter 6 is the richest single chapter for Locked Boxes — 10 are spread across the Guardie Station, printing press building, and surrounding streets.
Safes: All Five Combinations
Five Safes appear in the game — two in Chapter 3 and three in Chapter 6. Each yields Dinari or story-critical items, and each has a combination hidden on a nearby Note. All five confirmed combinations:
- Chapter 3 — Lemon Farm: 10-20-30 → ~200 Dinari (combination on the Farmer's Romantic Poem on the turquoise cabinet)
- Chapter 3 — Impound Yard/Customs Office: 21-10-08 → ~200 Dinari (combination in the Impound Yard Incident Reports folder)
- Chapter 6 — Brancati's Safe (Guardie Station, ground floor): 00-01-02 → ~300 Dinari (Safe Repair Record on the desk)
- Chapter 6 — Marino's Safe (Guardie Station, ground floor): 28-34-12 → ~300 Dinari + a document containing D'Amico's combination
- Chapter 6 — D'Amico's Office: 02-19-62 → printing plates required for story progression, no Dinari reward
Safes can also be cracked without any combination note by listening for the dial click — a slightly distinct sound at each correct number. Rotate slowly and listen carefully at each position.
Salvatore's Apprentice: The Only Permanently Missable Trophy
This is the single missable trophy in the entire game and cannot be fixed with Chapter Select. To unlock Salvatore's Apprentice, crack any safe before reading its combination Note.
If a Note is picked up first in Chapters 3 or 6 and the corresponding safe has already been opened, the trophy locks out for that playthrough — Chapter Replay does not reset this state. The only recovery is deleting your save file and restarting from the beginning.
The safe mechanic makes this easy to trigger accidentally: Notes are often on the same surface as or directly beside the Safe. Enter any safe room, crack the safe first by listening for the dial click, and only then read the Note nearby. One successful crack is all that's required for the trophy.
