Clair Obscur Expedition 33: Weapon Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Weapons are the foundation of every character build in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — determining Elemental Affinity, defining attack damage, and providing Passive Traits that unlock through level upgrades.

With 115+ weapons tracked across the game, each exclusive to one or two characters, finding the right weapon at the right stage of the run is the most direct path to combat effectiveness.

All locations are pinned on MapMaster's Expedition 33 interactive maps, including every weapon in the 30 exclusive area maps we have drawn.

How Weapons Work in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Every weapon determines the element of a character's basic attacks and skills. Elements are Physical, Light, Dark, Void, Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Earth — enemies have resistances and weaknesses across all eight, making elemental diversity in the party a meaningful advantage.

Keeping an Ice and a Fire weapon upgraded at all times covers the two most consistently exploitable enemy weaknesses throughout all three Acts.

Weapons are upgraded using Chroma Catalysts at The Curator at camp or any Expedition Flag, unlocked after completing Flying Waters.

A second upgrade method is passive: certain enemy encounters drop a higher-level copy of a weapon you already own, automatically upgrading your version when collected.

Eight Elements and Attribute Scaling

Beyond Might (which affects base attack damage for every weapon), each weapon has two additional scaling attributes.

When a weapon reaches S-tier scaling in one of those attributes, every point invested in that stat returns exponential damage — the difference between competent and exceptional single-character DPS.

This scaling relationship is what makes the weapon choice inseparable from attribute distribution.

The Medalum for Maelle is the clearest example: it scales primarily with Defense, meaning investing almost entirely in Defense simultaneously increases Maelle's survivability and her damage output.

Ignoring the scaling attribute and investing in Might alone for Medalum produces a fraction of its potential. Every weapon's scaling attributes follow the same logic — check the weapon's attribute pairs before distributing Attribute Points.

Weapon Passive Milestones at Levels 4, 10, and 20

Each weapon unlocks a new passive at Levels 4, 10, and 20 — three fixed milestones regardless of weapon tier.

The passives are unique per weapon and tied to each character's core mechanics: Maelle's weapons unlock stance-related passives, Sciel's unlock Foretell, Sun, and Moon interactions, Lune's unlock stain-based effects.

These passives don't function like Pictos — they can't be shared via the Lumina system and only apply when the weapon is equipped.

Prioritise pushing key weapons through milestones over spreading upgrades evenly. Level 10 is often where a weapon's identity crystallises. Save Grandiose and Perfect Chroma Catalysts for endgame weapons like Simoso (Verso) and Choralim (Lune) rather than spending them on mid-game pieces you'll replace.

The Gustave and Verso Shared Pool

Gustave and Verso use the same weapon pool and are never in the party simultaneously — every weapon investment made on Gustave during Acts 1 and 2 carries directly to Verso's kit in Act 3.

This is the most consequential structural fact about the weapon system: treat early Gustave upgrades as investment in Verso's endgame build, not a separate character's gear.

The Gestral Village Demonam is available for Gustave/Verso after the Proving Ground fight with the relevant merchant, giving access to a strong mid-game weapon before Stone Wave Cliffs.

Priority Weapons and Catalyst Spending

Some weapons are worth targeting specifically rather than taking whatever drops first:

  • Medalum (Gestral Village, Maelle Only) — the strongest Maelle weapon for most of the game. Requires winning the Ono-Puncho challenge in the arena to obtain. Scales Defense → dump almost all Attribute Points into Defense.

  • Simoso (The Continent, Verso Only) — the endgame Verso weapon, obtained by defeating Simon in The Abyss. Among the strongest weapons in the game. Save Perfect Chroma Catalysts for this.

  • Choralim (The Continent, Lune) — a top-tier endgame Lune weapon. Also a Grandiose/Perfect Catalyst priority.

  • Litheson (The Continent, Sciel) — considered god-tier for support Sciel by the community. One of the highest-priority Sciel weapons in the guide.

  • Joyaro (The Continent, Monoco) — starts every battle in Almighty Mask, enabling maximum skill efficiency regardless of build type.

All Weapon Locations in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The earliest weapons appear in Spring Meadows (Lunerim, Lanceram, Lighterim), Flying Waters (Brulerum, Cruleram, Troubadim from the Chromatic Troubadour, Deminerim from the Demineur NPC quest, Abysseram), and Lumière - Act 1 (Noahram, the starting Gustave/Verso weapon).

Ancient Sanctuary holds Sakaram and Trebuchim. Gestral Village holds Scieleson, Sekarum, Demonam, and Medalum. The Manor holds Maellum.

Yellow Harvest has four weapons — Gaulteram, Potierim, Plenum, and Kralim. Stone Wave Cliffs holds Delaram, Chation, Rangeson, Duenum, and Coralim. Forgotten Battlefield holds Ramasson, Lusteson, Benisim, and Dualiso.

Coastal Cave holds the largest concentrated weapon cluster — eight weapons from the Cruler Blacksmith merchant after the Proving Ground fight, covering Lanceram, Lighterim, Seeram, Brulerum, Cruleram, Deminerim, Gobluson, and Bourgelon.

Monoco's Station holds Grandaro, Coldum, and Cultam. The Continent carries the largest concentration — over 80 weapons spanning every named sub-region from early to late game, with the highest-level boss drops concentrated in the Tainted areas, Flying Manor, and Renoir's Drafts.

In New Game+, the Baguette weapons for every character become available from the Boulangerie in Lumière using Festival Tokens — the reason saving at least one Festival Token from the prologue is recommended.
