Clair Obscur Expedition 33: Chroma Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Chroma is the primary currency in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — spent at Merchants for Weapons, Tints, and Music Records, and used to upgrade Expedition Resources at Camp.

It's distinct from Colour of Lumina — the separate premium currency used specifically for Pictos.

All 100+ confirmed Chroma Deposit locations are tracked across MapMaster's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 interactive maps, including every deposit in the 30 hand-drawn, exclusive area maps that no other resource covers.

What Chroma Is in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Chroma flows from two sources. Enemy battles award small amounts after each fight.

Chroma Deposits — white crystal shards glowing in the environment — award significantly larger fixed amounts. Deposits range from 125 Chroma in early Lumière to 19,990 Chroma in late-game Dark Shores locations on The Continent.

The total available from world deposits across a first playthrough runs into the hundreds of thousands — enough to purchase everything at every Merchant without farming, if you're thorough.

One choice-based deposit is worth singling out: sparing the Chalier inside the mansion in Floating Cemetery rather than fighting yields 11,680 Chroma — the highest-value single deposit visible in the guide and one of the few collectible outcomes determined by a player's decision rather than exploration.

Chroma Deposits: One-Time Collection, Never Respawn

Every Chroma Deposit in the guide disappears permanently once collected. There are no respawning deposits and no way to revisit a missed one except through New Game+.

This makes MapMaster's checklist the practical completion tool — tracking which deposits remain uncollected across all 30+ maps is far faster with an interactive checklist than replaying areas from memory.

Several deposits are inside Paint Spikes — the glowing paint constructs scattered across The Continent and area maps.

Deposits inside Paint Spikes can almost always be collected without triggering a fight: walk through, take the Chroma, and continue. All Paint Cage interactions are tracked in a separate guide.

Maximising Chroma from World Deposits

The Gilded Edge Picto increases Chroma gained from world deposits by 15%. Equip it on one character during exploration and leave it equipped — it requires no rotation or activation.

The boost applies passively to every Chroma Deposit you collect while the Picto is slotted, and stacks with the naturally scaling deposit values across the game's regions.

In New Game+, every Chroma Deposit's value increases dramatically. The 125 Chroma deposits in Lumière become 3,340 Chroma each.

The 15,390 Chroma deposit in Dark Shores scales proportionally. If you're playing NG+ specifically to complete Chroma collection, the Gilded Edge Picto remains worth equipping — the 15% boost applies to the already-multiplied NG+ values.

One priority for Chroma spending: in the Lumière prologue, buy the Old Key before anything else. Missing it permanently locks several late-game areas and Journal Entries — it's the only time in the game where an early Chroma purchase has permanent story consequences.

Chroma Farming: What to Do When Deposits Run Out

Once world deposits are exhausted, the most efficient late-game Chroma source is Golgra in Gestral Village.

After defeating the Paintress and unlocking the Painted Power Picto (from the Boss guide), Maelle can one-shot Golgra in under 10 seconds using a Stendhal burn build — yielding approximately 24,000 Chroma per run, with up to 5,460 additional Chroma if the Medalum weapon is upgraded to Level 28 or higher.

Provoke Golgra via dialogue at Gestral Village, defeat her, rinse and repeat.

All Chroma Deposit Locations in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Deposits begin in Lumière - Act 1 (five confirmed deposits, 125 Chroma each), scale up across Spring Meadows (eight deposits, 180–720 Chroma), Flying Waters (five deposits, 333–665 Chroma), and Stone Wave Cliffs (six deposits, 790–3,160 Chroma).

The Continent holds the largest concentration by far — spanning Crimson Forest (5,435 Chroma each), Dark Shores (15,390 Chroma), Frozen Hearts (up to 13,930 Chroma), and every sub-region in between.

The Forgotten Battlefield, Gestral Village, Esquie's Nest, Yellow Harvest, Monoco's Station, and Esoteric Ruins all carry confirmed deposits tracked in the checklist below.
