Atomfall: Tool Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Atomfall Tools are the three specialist items — Metal Detector, Torch, and Signal Redirector — that occupy a dedicated tool slot in the inventory and don't consume any of the 12 main item slots.

They're the most mechanically distinct items in the game: each permanently changes what's visible, accessible, or solvable across the Windscale Quarantine Zone. All confirmed tool locations are included on Map Master's Atomfall complete interactive maps.

Tools Don't Use Inventory Space

The single most important fact about Atomfall's tool system: the Metal Detector, Torch, and Signal Redirector each occupy a separate tool slot outside the standard 12-item inventory.

Carrying all three simultaneously costs zero regular inventory slots — there's no trade-off between tools and weapons or consumables.

Metal Detector: Three Locations, One Tool Needed

We have tracked three Metal Detector locations — a body near water in Slatten Dale, a second body in a ruined building in Skethermoor, and Molly Jowett as a trader fallback. Only one copy is needed.

Molly only stocks the Metal Detector if it hasn't already been found in the world — once collected from either free location, her inventory no longer lists it.

Acquiring the Metal Detector unlocks the "Detectorist" (Bronze) trophy and enables all Dig Spots across all five regions.

Torch: Illumination and Item Detection

The Torch does more than light up dark caves. Every lootable item within range glows visibly when the Torch is active — pickups that blend into the environment against walls, under crates, or in corners become clearly highlighted.

This is the Torch's most valuable function beyond basic illumination and is the primary reason to keep it equipped while sweeping bunkers and caves for loot.

Controls:

• Press Triangle (PS5) to quick-equip from any screen.
• Press R2 to toggle on/off.
• The Torch has unlimited battery — no charges, no replacement cells.

We have marked the Torches in Slatten Dale (Bunker L7 entrance), Casterfell Woods (cavern below Castle Ruins), and The Interchange.

Signal Redirector: Two Locations, Multiple Uses

Two Signal Redirectors exist in Skethermoor — only one is needed:

• Skethermoor Prison Loading Bay — Security room, ground floor, on a shelf.
• Windfall's Crate, Protocol Field Station — requires Windfall's Key Item keycard first. More effort but accessible independently of Prison progress.

Finding either location unlocks the "Reverse the Polarity" (Bronze) trophy. Using the Signal Redirector on any five "No Power" doors (yellow light, "No Power" prompt) earns "Burglar" (Bronze).

The Signal Redirector has three distinct uses across the game:

• No Power doors — the "Burglar" trophy targets. Five of these exist across all regions, including the Casterfell Woods Radio Tower ventilation room
• Disabling turrets — the Signal Redirector interfaces with Junction Boxes to cut power to active sentry turrets
• Freeing Dr. Garrow — her cage in Skethermoor Prison opens with the Signal Redirector
• Bonus loot in Bunker L8 — return to the starting bunker in Slatten Dale after finding the Signal Redirector. The Junction Boxes inside, previously inert, can now be powered to unlock rooms with additional loot
