Atomfall: Dig Spot Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Atomfall Dig Spots are the 61 buried caches scattered across the Windscale Quarantine Zone — each one containing either a Lunchbox or a standard Lockbox, only distinguishable after digging.

All 61 require the Metal Detector to locate and uncover, and collectively they feed a three-trophy chain tied to the game's most British piece of kit.

As with everything else, all 61 locations are visible and ready to track across Map Master's Atomfall interactive maps.

Get the Metal Detector First: Free in Slatten Dale

The Metal Detector is the essential prerequisite for every Dig Spot in the game. Two acquisition options in Slatten Dale:

• Free (recommended) — on a corpse at 29.0E, 73.9N in southeast Slatten Dale, near a pond. No trade required.
• Trade — Molly Jowett sells one, but the barter cost is steep early in the game. All five regional traders also stock it.

Obtaining the Metal Detector unlocks the "Detectorist" (Bronze) trophy immediately.

The Three-Trophy Chain

• "Detectorist" (Bronze) — acquire a Metal Detector. Unlocks on pickup.

• "Where There's Muck There's Brass" (Bronze) — find 10 metal detector caches (any buried items — Lunchboxes and Lockboxes both count). With 61 Dig Spots across all regions, this unlocks naturally during a thorough playthrough.

• "Packed Lunch" (Bronze) — find 5 Lunchboxes specifically. Since Dig Spots can contain either a Lunchbox or a standard Lockbox, and there's no way to tell which before digging, using Map Master's Lunchbox guide to target confirmed Lunchbox Dig Spots is the fastest route.

How to Use the Metal Detector

When the game detects a buried cache nearby, a Metal Detector icon and a double beep appear on screen. Press Triangle (PS5) / Y (Xbox) to equip.

Hold L2 / LT to deploy and aim at the ground. The five red lights show the direction to walk; the needle gauge shows the distance.

When the gauge maxes out and all five lights flash simultaneously, press R2 / RT to dig and uncover the cache.

61 Dig Spots: Per-Region Distribution

• Skethermoor — 15 (the most of any region): hedge maze ×2, Skethermoor Prison lower floor ×2, Protocol Outpost boundary, burned-out area, bridge, river, ruins, and open moorland

• Wyndham Village — 13 (including 2 preorder-only): park fountain, stone cross near graveyard, cliff edge, playground, fenced vehicle area, Protocol Outpost restricted grounds, and 2 Village Green preorder bonus spots

• Casterfell Woods — 13: electrified substation (pull override lever first), Bunker L9, cliff squeeze gap, watermill, lookout bench, outhouse, hillside overlooking greenhouses, shore near water, and barred-door house

• The Interchange — 10: distributed through underground facility rooms and corridors

• Slatten Dale — 10: waterside pebbles ×3 (each containing Lunchboxes), Bunker L8 exit, ruined building near knife, Slate Mine Caves interior

Four High-Priority Dig Spots

Wyndham Village Preorder Bonus (×2, Village Green) — if the game was preordered, these two spots contain Training Stimulant ×3 and a Survivor's Revolver. The highest-value single dig spot in the game. Non-preorder players cannot access these.

Skethermoor Hedge Maze — contains the Torn Signal Redirector Plans, an important Finding for the Signal Redirector Lead.

Wyndham Village — in debris between two destroyed buildings- contains "Protocol's Secrets" and "June's Diary" — two critical Finding documents for the June's Key Item questline.

Skethermoor — requires Ilya's Key to access. Notable loot not yet confirmed in the table — verify and update.
