Atomfall: Melee Weapon Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Melee Weapons in Atomfall are the 20 bladed, blunt, and electrical weapons for close-quarters combat across the Windscale Quarantine Zone — from the Knife on a Slatten Dale windowsill to the Excellent-damage Mace carried by the antlered Druid in The Speaking Cave.

All 20 weapon locations, with damage tier, attack speed, and status effects, are fully documented and ready to be tracked across our Atomfall free interactive maps.

Damage Tiers and What They Mean for Combat

Three damage tiers separate Atomfall's melee weapons — the tier determines raw damage per hit before any skill bonuses:

  • Excellent — the highest tier, exclusive to the Mace. Maximum damage per swing but offset by Slow attack speed. Ideal for enemies with large health pools and predictable attack patterns where the swing recovery time can be managed safely.

  • High — shared by the Sword (Fast speed + Bleed), Cricket Bat (Average speed), Heavy Survival Knife (Average speed + Bleed), and Axe (Slow speed). The best versatility-to-damage ratio weapons sit here.

  • Average — Knife (Fast + Bleed) and Hatchet (Fast + Bleed). Rapid attack speed compensates for lower per-hit damage; both cause Bleed, which adds sustained damage over time.

The Best Melee Weapons

Sword (Casterfell Woods, sticking out of a rock near a wooden bridge) — High damage + Fast speed + Causes Bleed — the strongest all-round melee weapon in the game. The combination of the two best offensive attributes — rapid swings and Bleed — makes it dominant against both human and creature enemies.

Mace (Casterfell Woods, on the Druid with antlers near the large effigy in The Speaking Cave) — Excellent damage + Slow speed — the highest damage ceiling of any melee weapon. The Slow speed is the only drawback; against stunned, staggered, or cornered enemies, the Mace ends encounters fastest.

Heavy Survival Knife (Skethermoor, sold by Corporal "Bootsy" Hughes) — High damage + Average speed + Causes Bleed — the best Bleed-damage weapon that isn't the Sword. More accessible than the Sword early on, with Bleed damage adding sustained pressure on high-health enemies.

Two Cricket Trophies, Two Very Different Challenges

"Fast Bowl" (Bronze) — kill 10 enemies with thrown melee weapons.

  • Any melee weapon in the inventory can be thrown by holding the throw button; Knives and Hatchets are the most effective projectiles due to their Fast attack speed archetype carrying over to throw effectiveness. Bleed weapons also apply their effect on a successful thrown hit.

"Hit for Six" (Bronze) — hit a thrown Grenade with a Cricket Bat while it's in the air.

  • This is a timing trick shot — not a kill count. Equip any Cricket Bat, wait for an enemy to throw a Grenade, and swing the bat to deflect it mid-flight. The grenade must be airborne when hit. One successful deflection unlocks the trophy regardless of whether the deflected grenade kills anything.
