Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: Mayan Stela Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Mayan Stelae in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are the 16 ancient stone pillars hidden across Caribbean islands — spatial alignment puzzles that each yield a Mayan Stone, and together unlock the sealed door at Tulum for two of the most powerful rewards in the game: the Mayan Outfit and the Yax Tun Pendant (Legendary Trinket — bullet immunity).

All Mayan Stela locations are fully documented on Map Master's Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced completionist interactive maps.

The "Mayan Mysteries" Side Quest

The quest begins automatically during Sequence 4 — "This Old Cove", when James Kidd brings Edward to Great Inagua and the first Mayan Stela puzzle is introduced as part of the story — the first Mayan Stone is awarded without any risk of missing it.

Later in Sequence 4, during "Overrun and Outnumbered", Kidd leads Edward to the Assassin Brotherhood stronghold at Tulum and shows the sealed door blocking the inner temple. The objective: collect all 16 Mayan Stones to open it.

Stela markers appear on the map after syncing the Viewpoint in each region — always sync Viewpoints first before hunting Stelae in any new area.

The Two Rewards: Mayan Outfit and Yax Tun Pendant

In the original 2013 Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, the Mayan Armor was one of the few outfits with a gameplay perk — it deflected bullets.

In Resynced, all outfits are purely cosmetic — the bullet-deflection perk has been separated into its own standalone Trinket, the Yax Tun Pendant. This means players can now use bullet immunity without wearing the Mayan Outfit.

  • Mayan Outfit (Legendary) — described as "created using scavenged First Civilization materials." No gameplay effect in Resynced — purely cosmetic.

  • Yax Tun Pendant (Legendary Trinket) — "All gunshots are mysteriously absorbed." Edward becomes immune to incoming gunfire while this Trinket is equipped. Paired with the Shark Teeth Trinket (Brutes cannot deny Chain Takedowns), this combination makes combat significantly easier for the remainder of the playthrough.

How to Solve Mayan Stela Puzzles

Every Stela is a spatial alignment puzzle with the same mechanic:

  • Climb the Mayan pillar and press the Investigate button. Edward's Eagle Vision activates and highlights specific rocks or pillars in the surrounding environment — these are the targets to match. Simultaneously, a set of connected shapes appears on the ground.

  • Move, rotate, and resize the shapes until they fit precisely over the highlighted structures — square shapes over square pillars, circular shapes over circular rocks. Once the alignment is correct, a section of the ground begins to glow. Walk to it and interact to dig up the Mayan Stone.

Important: each puzzle resets completely when approached. There is no partial progress. Work one shape at a time rather than trying to rotate the entire connected shape at once — this prevents over-correcting and makes the alignment much more manageable.

All Island Locations

  • Cape Bonavista (1) — southeastern side. The same island where the prologue began.
  • Cat Island (1) — northern beach near the Warehouse. Clear the area first.
  • Tulum (1) — south side of the ruins. Tulum is also the final destination for the completed set — there's a chest nearby containing 500 Reales.
  • Matanzas (1) — south-east side.
  • Misteriosa (2) — one near the shore, one at the back of the temple. Both require clearing enemies to access safely. A Treasure Map is also nearby.
  • Tortuga (1) — accessible once the island is reached.
  • Pinos Isle (2) — in the sandy area near the northern part of the island.
  • New Bone (1) — British-held island; clear the guarding ships and soldiers before docking to reach the Stela safely.
  • Santanillas (1) — inside the central ruins.
  • Sacrifice Island (1) — western corner of the stronghold.
  • Isla Providencia (2) — story-gated until Sequence 8. Both Stelae are on the island but cannot be interacted with before the story reaches this point.
  • Long Bay (1, coordinates 502, 216) — southern corner, between the large square-shaped stone blocks. Story-gated until Sequence 10. The final Stela before completing the set.
