Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: Cutlass Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Cutlasses in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are one of Edward Kenway's three melee sword types — the crowd-control specialist of the weapon system, defined by a wide-arching sweep Heavy Strike that hits multiple enemies simultaneously and is most effective during boarding actions and fights against grouped soldiers.

Three Sword Types: Know the Difference

Cutlasses are one of three melee sword categories in Resynced — each defined by its Heavy Strike behaviour rather than a style of play:

• Cutlass — wide-arching sweep Heavy Strike. Hits multiple enemies in front of Edward in a single motion. Best for crowd control, deck clearing during ship boarding, and staggering groups before Chain Takedowns. The second-strongest all-round sword type.

• Rapier — piercing Heavy Strike against a single target. Higher single-target damage potential with faster recovery. Better for bosses and elite enemies where stun and rapid follow-ups matter more than crowd-sweeping.

• Pistol-Sword (Le Bourgeoys Blades and similar) — fires shots as the Heavy Strike, consuming no regular pistol ammunition. The most versatile type for breaking Brute guards without using the main pistol. Separate guide category tracked under the Art Piece guide (Le Bourgeoys Blades are the Art Lover quest reward).

Two Stats That Define Every Cutlass

Damage — raw attack value for light strikes, heavy strikes, and combo hits. Higher Damage = faster health depletion on enemy defence.

Maximum Takedowns — how many enemies Edward can execute in a single Chain Takedown after a Perfect Parry. The ceiling in the entire game is 4 Maximum Takedowns.

A sword with 4 Max Takedowns lets Edward eliminate four enemies instantly after a single parry in a crowd — the highest-value combat mechanic in Resynced for dense fights.

Superior Cutlass Locations and Stats

• British Cutlasses — Damage: 17, Max Takedowns: 2. Story-mandatory purchase at the Havana General Store during the "Lively Havana" quest. The first sword Edward acquires beyond the starting blades and the entry point into Havana's combat encounters.

• Lightserver's Blades — Damage: 38, Max Takedowns: 2. Perk: Heavy Strike Range is increased — the arc of the Cutlass sweep covers more ground. Part of the Master Assassin Character Pack, available from game start as part of the Deluxe Edition or purchasable separately for $9.99. Located on Cape Bonavista in the guide.

• Dual Cleavers — Damage: 38, Max Takedowns: 2. Perk: attack power increases when Edward's health is low — a bonus that rewards high-risk playstyle. Cost: 19,000 Reales from the max-level General Store at Great Inagua. Requires upgrading the Great Inagua General Store to its highest tier, available after Sequence 4.

• The Fortune — Damage unconfirmed, Legendary rarity. Perk: earn Reales for each hit after a Heavy Attack kill — a novelty perk more than a practical one. Found in a chest at Great Inagua Manor in the overgrown ruins behind the open wooden gates. Not a combat powerhouse but counts toward the Dilettante sword collection.

• Persian Scimitars — Damage: 38. Perk: can Perfect Parry normally unblockable attacks from Brutes — the most mechanically significant Cutlass perk in the game. Brutes are the enemy type that blocks all normal parries, and Persian Scimitars remove that restriction entirely. Essential for boss encounters.

• Dragon's Fang Swords — Damage: 38, Max Takedowns: 4. Perk: kills temporarily increase attack power, causing damage to snowball in fast-kill chains. One of only a few confirmed weapons with the maximum 4 Max Takedowns value.

Dilettante Trophy: 18 Swords Required

"Dilettante" (Silver) — fill all decoration slots in Great Inagua Manor, including the Weapons Room, which requires any 18 Swords and any 12 Pistols.

Both Cutlasses and Rapiers count toward the 18 total — there are more swords in the game than required, so no single Cutlass is mandatory. Collect and display any 18 across both sword types to fill the Weapons Room slots.
