What is Rare Metal Used For?

Rare Metal is a pile of titanium and zirconium — combine it with Infected Blood to create 12.7x55mm ammo. Each craft costs 1x Rare Metal + 80x Infected Blood and produces 2x 12.7x55mm bullets.

With 5 Rare Metals in the game, the maximum crafted output is 10 rounds. These are the most powerful rounds available and the primary ammunition for a specific high-calibre weapon.

Grace Crafts, Leon Shoots: The Full Picture

Rare Metal is Grace-exclusive and specifically for crafting 12.7x55mm Requiem ammo. The weapon that fires them is different: the Requiem is Leon's starting weapon, holding 5 rounds of 12.7x55mm ammo.

Grace manufactures the rounds in her section of the game and carries them in her inventory. When the story brings the two characters together at a key story beat, Leon receives all the rounds Grace was holding in a cutscene.

Craft as many 12.7x55mm rounds as your Rare Metal and Infected Blood allow before that story point — they all transfer.

Unlocking the Requiem Ammo Recipe First

Rare Metal sitting in Grace's inventory is inert without the crafting recipe. To unlock it, find the Blood Specimen (Converged) in the Waiting Room Closet using the Level 1 ID Wristband, then take it to the Blood Analyzer and solve the puzzle.

This analysis unlocks both the 12.7x55mm Ammo recipe and the Med Injector recipe simultaneously.
