Nioh 3: Samurai's Text Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Samurai's Texts and Ninja's Texts are twin systems — both permanently increase Skill Capacity, but for opposite sides of Nioh 3's dual-style combat. Where Ninja's Texts expand the number of active Ninjutsu techniques you can equip simultaneously, Samurai's Texts expand the same ceiling for the Samurai Style skill tree.

There are 13 confirmed Samurai's Text locations across Warring States, Heian, and Bakumatsu, all included on our Nioh 3 free interactive maps.

Samurai's Text vs Ninja's Text: The Parallel System

The distinction matters for build planning. Samurai's Locks provide Samurai Skill Points to unlock nodes in the Samurai tree.

Samurai's Texts expand the capacity pool that determines how many of those nodes can be simultaneously active.

More texts means more high-capacity techniques — like Roaring Dragon Deflect, Running Water, Unshakable, Advantageous Deflect, and Recoup — equipped at the same time without sacrificing core defensive slots.

Check your current active loadout in the Skill Management tab at any Shrine or Bodhisattva Statue under the Samurai sub-menu. Every Samurai's Text you find is reflected there as increased total capacity.

13 Locations, One Double-Pack

Eleven entries give one Samurai's Text each. The standout exception: defeating Takeda Shingen in Saigagake Castle rewards two Samurai's Texts simultaneously — the only double-pack in the guide.

This drops automatically on defeat during The Battle of Saigagake Main Mission. It's also the highest-value single encounter for Samurai Skill Capacity in Warring States, and one of only two confirmed boss-drop Text sources in the game, alongside the Heian Palace Grounds Crucible building chest.

The remaining texts are distributed across world exploration — corpses on mountain ledges, small chests in houses, a lava river alley, an enemy base tunnel alcove, and a Crucible path.

Six are in the Warring States, four in Heian, and three in Bakumatsu.

Two Warnings Worth Heeding

Two locations carry specific safety notes that appear in the checklist and nowhere else:

• Honnoji Temple Crucible (Bakumatsu) — the corpse with a Samurai's Text is on a root on the side of the path full of moving traps, past the second Bodhisattva Statue. An overhead enemy can ambush you while you're focused on navigating the trap path. Clear the area above before looting.

• Sagano central area (Heian) — the Samurai's Text is on the ground next to some cargo. Don't approach with low Ki — clear the wolf pack before going for the item.

• Warring States (6 Texts): Futamata Road house chest, Tokaido Enemy Base tunnel alcove, Hamamatsu lava river alley corpse, Maisaka village house chest (near Six Jizo), Futamata Castle hilltop building chest, Saigagake Castle — Takeda Shingen defeat (x2 reward).

• Heian (4 Texts): Mount Kurama pavilion railing chest, Yasaka Shrine building chest (Rokuhara), Sagano central cargo area corpse (wolf guard), Palace Grounds Crucible wooden building chest (melting ice crystals path).

• Bakumatsu (3 Texts): Honnoji Temple Crucible moving-trap path corpse (overhead yokai warning), Shichijo eastern Spirit Vein chest, Gion Crucible Wraith clearing corpse.
