Nioh 3: Crucible Spike Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

There are 13 Crucible Spikes in Nioh 3 — red crystal formations scattered across the open-world eras that permanently upgrade your Guardian Spirits when destroyed.

All 13 are included with exact approach routes on the Nioh 3 interactive maps, with access requirements flagged for the two gated entries.

What Are Crucible Spikes in Nioh 3?

Crucible Spikes are small red crystals that you interact with to destroy. They are similar to Lesser Crucibles, but guarded by fewer enemies.

Each spike sits in the open world — sometimes in a clearing, sometimes behind a Spirit Vein, occasionally guarded by a single elite Yokai.

Approach the spike, defeat any nearby enemies, then interact with it to shatter it. No combat arena, no wave system — just a quick fight and an interact prompt.

Crucible Spikes get marked on the map automatically with a small red spike icon when you find enough Collectibles to reach Exploration Level 4 within a region. Nothing is missable — all areas remain open after the story.

Not Required for Trophies — But Worth Destroying

Crucible Spikes aren't needed for any trophy or achievement. You can complete the game and earn the Platinum without touching a single one.

That said, skipping them means leaving your Guardian Spirits permanently underpowered — the upgrades they provide are significant and cumulative.

Guardian Spirit Benefits: Why Every Spike Counts

Each destroyed Crucible Spike unlocks one additional passive effect on your Guardian Spirits and increases your maximum Spirit Force capacity.

The special effects that unlock scale based on how many Crucible Spikes have been destroyed in total, and Guardian Spirit Attack power increases with each one.

Every Guardian Spirit starts with three passive effects active — the remaining two special effects, and both Guardian Spirit Skills become available as you accumulate spike destructions. Maxing all 13 completes every Guardian Spirit's passive effect list.

Crucible Spikes vs Lesser Crucibles: The Key Difference

Both destroy a red crystal as their final step, but the experience is completely different. Lesser Crucibles are self-contained combat arenas that spawn multiple waves of enemies, culminating in a Crucible Spike you must destroy.

Standalone Crucible Spikes are smaller encounters — a handful of enemies rather than a full wave gauntlet. Both grant the same Spirit Force and Guardian Spirit benefits. For Lesser Crucible locations, see the Lesser Crucible guide.

Two Access-Gated Spikes to Plan Around

Hachijo Crucible Spike (Heian) — requires the Oh Guardian Spirit to reach via the northern Spirit Vein. Oh is obtained by defeating Minamoto no Yoritomo, the final boss of the Heian era. Don't attempt this spike before completing Heian's main story.

Second Shichijo Crucible Spike (Bakumatsu) — cannot be destroyed on first arrival. The checklist is explicit: follow the northwestern path into Shijo, complete the Those Left Behind main mission, then return to the spike and destroy it. Players who arrive and find themselves unable to interact with it simply haven't triggered the mission yet.
