Crier Nests in Days Gone Remastered are the 42 individual nests grouped into 18 distinct locations across the late-game regions of Highway 97 and Crater Lake — the last 8% needed to complete the Infestation Exterminator storyline and its matching trophy.
Unlike Freaker Nests, which are found in buildings, Crier Nests are built high in treetops and on power poles — you have to look up to find them. All 18 locations are included on our Days Gone Oregon map.
Infestation Exterminator (Bronze) — burn all 12 standard Infestation zones across Oregon AND all 18 Crier Nest locations.
Crier Nests represent the final 8% of this storyline, locked exclusively to the southernmost regions. Standard infestations open the trophy grind; Crier Nests close it.
Neither type is missable — the whole map reopens after the main story concludes, with two temporary regional lockouts at the end of Lost Lake and the end of Crater Lake.
The single most important rule: clearing a Crier Nest location requires burning every individual nest on every tree and pole at that site — not just one or two.
Some trees carry up to 5 nests stacked at different heights. Burning two and leaving three does not mark the location cleared.
The game confirms a full clear with a "Nest Destroyed" notification in the top-right corner. Until that message appears, the location icon remains on the map.
The standard approach is Molotov cocktails or fuel canisters, but Incendiary Bolts are dramatically more efficient — one bottle of Kerosene crafts 3 Incendiary Bolts vs 1 Molotov, and each bolt can ignite multiple nests on the same tree from a single well-aimed shot at the trunk's mid-point.
The Crafting Recipe for Incendiary Bolts unlocks after clearing 8 Ambush Camps — and since the Crier Nest regions are Highway 97 and Crater Lake (late-game areas), most players will have 8+ camps cleared before reaching them.
Crier Nests attract Freakers when disturbed, but roaming Freaker counts are significantly lower during daylight hours.
Doing nest burns during the day — especially for multi-nest trees that require several throws — avoids the swarm aggression that nighttime clears trigger.
Burning any nest (Crier or Freaker) drops Nest Residue on the ground nearby — the crafting material for Residue Bolts, which make enemies attack each other.
These can be picked up from the ash immediately after the burn, making every Crier Nest clear a small bonus crafting run alongside the trophy progress.
