Crimson Desert: Minigame Challenge Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Crimson Desert Minigame Challenges are optional competitive activities found in settlements, taverns, arenas, and fairgrounds across Pywel.

They cover six distinct activity types — arm wrestling, archery and shooting contests, horse racing, card games, Rock Paper Scissors, and unarmed duels — each with its own rules, unlock conditions, and rewards.

Find every location on our regional maps that you can access via the Crimson Desert guide hub.

How Minigame Challenges Work

Most challenges follow the same progression structure: win a streak of three consecutive matches against regular opponents, then face a Champion in a final showdown.

Losing at any point resets your streak — you restart from the first opponent, not from where you lost.

Rewards range from silver to unique items: the Darkhooves Grand Prix rewards Riding Attire that reduces horse taming difficulty; Steel Fist rewards the Unarmed Duel Trophy (a furniture item for your home base); Silver Trigger rewards Insight 1 alongside silver.

All Minigame Types: What's Available

Arm Wrestling (Hero's Handshake) — the first minigame most players encounter. Hero's Handshake 1 unlocks after the Where Rumors Gather quest, inside the Hernand Tavern.

Defeat three opponents in succession, then beat the champion, Levan the Rock Solid. Hero's Handshake 2 follows in Chapter 7 and requires completing two Oongka-related quests first (see Quest-Locked section below).

Additional Arm Wrestling tables with no challenge attached exist in Delesyia (by Finhold Netmakers) and Pailune (camp outside the Inn).

Archery and Shooting — two separate challenges. Hawkeye (archery) at Lioncrest Manor in Hernand: defeat three opponents, then the Champion Hernandian Guard in a target race.

Silver Trigger (shooting contest) in Hernand, north of Lioncrest Manor: race to hit 10 targets before your opponent. Rewards Insight 1 and silver.

Horse Racing (Darkhooves Grand Prix) — at the Demeniss Horse Fair race track, available after liberating Demeniss in Chapter 10. Win a streak of three races, then beat the Champion.

Stamina management is key — opponents use rubberbanding, so preserve at least your inner blue stamina bar until the final corner before sprinting to the finish. The legendary horse Royler (highest base stamina and speed) trained to Level 4 is the recommended mount.

Horseshoes improve stamina regeneration; other equipment provides no racing advantage.

Card GamesA Bloom of High Stakes (Duo) on the upper floor of the Hernand Tavern: a Blackjack-Poker hybrid where you win three hands in a row and face one, two, and three opponents.

Cheating is part of the mechanics — watch opponents' hand movements during the shuffle; hand toward throat means they're hiding a card, hand moving sideways means they're playing honestly.

You can also cheat by pressing Triangle when the prompt appears.

Key of Destiny (Five-Card) in Pailune: same streak-then-champion structure, five cards per round instead of two. Requires completing the Odeck Tribe faction quest chain first. Additional Gambling and an All-Out Duel are available in Tommaso.

Rock Paper Scissors — five locations across the map: Hernand city alley (A Silent War challenge — look for the boy after 10 AM), Pailune docks (talk to boy by wagon), Demeniss north of the Tribunal (talk to kids), Delesyia east of the Castle (by the well), Tommaso east side, and Varnia west side.

Unarmed Duel (Steel Fist) — at the Hernand fight pit, introduced during the Disturbance at the Arena main quest in Chapter 4. Equip only your gloves, win three fights, then beat the Champion. Available to revisit after the quest completes.

Character-Specific Challenges

The Silver Trigger shooting contest is Damiane-only — Kliff and Oongka cannot enter. If you're playing as Kliff and searching for the shooting contest NPC, they won't offer you a match.

Switch to Damiane and return.

Quest-Locked Challenges: What to Unlock First

Several challenges require specific quest completions before they appear:

  • Hero's Handshake 2 (Arm Wrestling) — requires completing two Oongka faction quests in Chapter 8: "Gentle Sound of Flowing River" (fishing with Oongka southeast of Pailune) and "Strength Held in the Fingertips" (triggered by speaking to Oongka at Calphade Castle after the fishing quest).
  • Swordsmanship Contest — in Tommaso, Crimson Desert region. Requires completing the "Duel with the Emperor" faction quest first.
  • Key of Destiny (Five-Card) — in Pailune. Requires completing most Pailune faction quests, including the Odeck Tribe questline and Stjar Clan quests. You can play Five-Card casually before this — the challenge simply won't register until the questline is done.
  • Darkhooves Grand Prix — requires liberating Demeniss in Chapter 10.

All Minigame Challenge locations are pinned across the Hernand interactive map, Pailune map guide, Demeniss region map, Delesyia interactive map, and Crimson Desert region guide, with full objectives, rewards, and solutions in the checklist below.

Darkhooves Grand PrixDemeniss

Win a horse race in Demeniss at the track next to Breesman Pasture, which becomes available after liberating Demeniss in Chapter 10.

Challenge Set:

  • Racing

Objective:

  • Have a win streak in Horse Racing x3 & beat the Champion.

Reward:

  • Riding Attire (Armor that reduces horse taming difficulty)

How to Complete:

  • At the race track, you’ll compete against one opponent at a time in a 3-lap race around the horse track.
  • Opponents use strong rubberbanding, so it’s difficult to build a huge lead or fall far behind. Because of this, managing your horse’s stamina and maintaining a steady pace throughout the race is essential.
  • Try to preserve at least the inner blue stamina bar until the final corner, then sprint at full speed to the finish line.
  • For the best performance, it’s recommended to tame the Legendary Horse Royler and train it to at least level 4 by riding and petting it regularly.
  • Royler starts with the highest stamina and speed among the legendary horses, making it the strongest choice for racing overall.
  • Equip horseshoes to improve stamina regeneration slightly; other equipment only affects health and damage, so it provides no advantage in races.
Rock, Paper, ScissorsDemeniss

You can play Rock, Paper, Scissors north of Demeniss Tribunal. Talk to the kids next to the stone building to start a game.

Rock, Paper, ScissorsDelesyia

You can play Rock, Paper, Scissors by the well on the east side of Delesyia Castle. Talk to the kids next to the well to start a game.

Hero’s Handshake 2Hernand

The Hero’s Handshake 2 Challenge is unlocked in Chapter 7 if you win at arm wrestling at the tavern in Claphade.

Objective:

  • Have a win streak in Arm Wrestling x3 & beat the Champion.

Reward:

  • Money

How to Complete:

  • To make the champion appear, you first need to complete two Oongka-related quests in the Scattered Embers Faction Quests, which become available in Chapter 8 and are required to unlock him as a playable character for the rest of the game.
  • The first quest, “Gentle Sound of Flowing River,” unlocks immediately in Chapter 8 once you’re playing as Kliff. It involves going fishing with Oongka southeast of Pailune.
  • The second set of quests, “Strength Held in the Fingertips,” is triggered by speaking to Oongka at Calphade Castle after completing the fishing quest. Once both are finished, you can win three consecutive arm wrestling matches to unlock a fight against the champion.
Silver TriggerHernand

The Silver Trigger is unlocked by winning at the Shooting Contest in Hernand, found north of Lioncrest Manor.

Objective:

  • Have a win streak in the shooting contest of x3 & beat the Champion.

Reward:

  • Money
  • Insight 1

How to Complete:

  • The shooting contest can only be entered while playing as Damiane, and not with either of the other two characters. It works similarly to the archery contest, where you compete against an opponent in a race to hit 10 targets first.
  • After winning three matches in a row within a single session, you’ll unlock a challenge against the Champion, known as Wick of the High Noon. As with the archery contest, there is a degree of randomness, since your opponent may sometimes immediately shoot targets as soon as they appear.
  • To improve your chances, keep your aim centered on the arena and only adjust left and right. Release L2 to fire as soon as your crosshair aligns with a target.
Key of DestinyPailune

The Key of Destiny Challenge is unlocked after completing the Odeck Tribe faction quest chain, Executioner of Justice, in Pailune. This faction quest becomes available only after finishing most of the other faction quests in Pailune, alongside the Stjar Clan quests. Although you can play Five-Card earlier, the related challenge will not unlock until the faction questline is completed.

Objective:

  • Have a win streak in Five-Card(x3), Win against 1, 2, and 3 opponents at least once each.

Reward:

  • Money

How to Complete:

  • Five-Card works similarly to the Duo minigame, except you draw five cards per round instead of two. The player with the highest total score wins the hand.
  • After each draw, you’ll see the first card drawn by your opponents. Hold Left Arrow on the D-Pad of your PS5 controller to check the range of possible scores they could have, as well as the strength of your own hand. If your cards are weak, it’s usually better to fold rather than waste more money. On the other hand, if you have a strong hand while your opponents appear weak, going all-in will often force them to fold and secure you the win.
  • Pay close attention during the shuffle phase, as opponents may try to cheat. You can tell by their hand movements: if they pull their hand upward toward their throat, they are hiding a card in their sleeve; if they move their hand sideways, they are playing honestly.
  • During your own shuffle turn, you can also attempt to cheat by pressing Triangle when the prompt appears. This lets you conceal a card in your sleeve, which can later be slipped back into your deck during the match when the prompt appears again at the bottom of the screen.
Steel FistHernand

The Steel Fist is unlocked in Chapter 4, the Disturbance at the Arena quest.

Objective:

  • Have a win streak in the unarmed duel x3 & beat the champion.

Reward:

  • Money
  • Unarmed Duel Trophy (Furniture)

How to Complete:

  • During the Disturbance at the Arena main quest, you’ll be introduced to the fight pit. Open the weapon wheel (hold on PS5) and equip only your gloves, then speak to the fight host to begin.
  • You need to win 3 fights in a row, followed by a fourth match against the champion. If you lose at any point, your streak resets and you’ll have to start over. Even after completing the main quest, you can return to the arena at any time.
Arm WrestlingDelesyia

You can play Arm Wrestling by Finhold Netmakers.

Arm WrestlingPailune

You can play Arm Wrestling in the camp outside the Inn.

HawkeyeHernand

The Hawkeye Challenge is unlocked by entering the archery contest at Lioncrest Manor.

Challenge Set:

  • Shooting

Objective:

  • Defeat 3 enemies in a row in the Archery Contest, and then defeat the Champion (Hernandian Guard).

Reward:

  • None

How to Complete:

  • Before you start, you should be aware that this challenge is absolutely awful. Bad design and very bad execution.
  • To gain a small edge, navigate to the Settings menu and set both your Camera Speed and Camera Acceleration to their absolute maximum. This should help you a bit.
  • To maximize your speed, keep your aim button held down for the entire duration of the contest—never let your focus break. Each time you successfully take down a target, immediately snap your sights back to the center of the shooting area.
  • Don't forget that you are not allowed to lose a single round, because the devs thought that it would be very entertaining to start over.
A Silent WarHernand

A Silent War Challenge is unlocked after defeating the kid in the Hernand Towen alley at a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Challenge Set:

  • Mind Game

Objective:

  • Win in Rock, Paper, Scissors three times.

Reward:

  • None

How to Complete:

  • A simple game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
  • Win three times to complete the challenge.
  • Keep in mind that the boy will only accept playing once in a while, so you'll need to visit him at least three times.
  • Look for him after 10 A.M.
GamblingCrimson Desert

All-Out DuelCrimson Desert

You can engage in All-Out Duel by talking to the host by the white tent.

Hero’s Handshake 1Hernand

The Hero’s Handshake 1 is unlocked after completing the Where Rumors Gather Quest, by participating in the arm wrestling competition in Hernand.

Challenge Set:

  • Test of Strength

Objective:

  • Defeat 3 enemies at Arm Wrestling, and then defeat the Champion (Levan the Rock Solid).

Reward:

  • None

How to Complete:

  • Head into the inn at Hernand Castle and challenge the local arm-wrestlers.
  • You will need to maintain your momentum by beating three opponents in succession.
  • After securing those three wins, you will be faced with the fourth and most difficult opponent: the champion. Overpower him to complete the challenge.
  • Keep in mind that if you lose to the Champion, you will have to start over and defeat the first three challengers again.
