Assassin's Creed Shadows: Sumi-e Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Naoe can embrace the artistic traditions of Japan through Sumi-e Paintings. While you can paint standard wildlife throughout the world for minor rewards, the true challenge lies in finding the 5 Legendary Sumi-e.

These represent rare, mythical animals that only appear under specific seasonal and time-of-day conditions. Finding and painting all five is required to unlock the "A Rare Occurrence" trophy/achievement and grants you unique wall decorations for your Hideout.

Beyond the legendary variants, you can occasionally find "Standard" Sumi-e opportunities with common animals like generic macaques, hares, or deer.

These are not marked on the map but will appear as a white brush icon on your compass when you are near a valid animal. They reward small amounts of XP and standard wall arts.

The following table lists all Sumi-e painting spots. You can use it to easily access our AC Shadows interactive map and guide, which will further help you identify their spawn locations across Japan.

The easiest way to reach this Sumi-e is via the Trail of the Naruto. Starting from the location of the chest and the exchange keys, climb down to the bottom floor of the boat and take the yellow-painted stairs up the hill.

From there, follow the yellow flags and paint across the ledges and large trees. Eventually, you will slide down a rock face and need to grapple quickly to swing to the other side.
