Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: Vault Data File Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Vault Data Files in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are the modern-day lore collectibles scattered across the Caribbean — encrypted logs, diary pages, manifestos, and media files that replace the original 2013 game's Abstergo Entertainment database system and connect to the new 2095 Animus Ego storyline.

They are organised into four themed Fragment Sets and found at fixed locations in the world. All Vault Data File locations are tracked in the checklist below and our Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced interactive maps.

Vault Data Files vs Data Fragments: A Critical Distinction

Two systems share near-identical names but function completely differently:

• Vault Data Files (this guide) — static narrative collectibles physically found at fixed world locations. Each belongs to one of four Fragment Sets and unlocks a lore entry in the Animus database. Comparable to Codex Entries but focused on modern-day 2095 content rather than historical Caribbean lore.

• Data Fragments (separate system) — a live-service currency earned by completing timed Anomaly challenges that spawn periodically across the Caribbean Sea map (white Animus logo icons that turn purple when selected). Each completed Anomaly — sinking corrupted ships, opening corrupted chests, defeating corrupted entities — rewards 700–900 Data Fragments.

These are spent in the Animus Projects system (the game's free battle pass) to unlock cosmetics, Animus Keys, and exclusive gear, including the Dark Animus Corsair Flintlocks and Corsair Robes from the Eye in the Dark Project.

The Four Fragment Sets

Every Vault Data File belongs to one of four themed collections:

The Journey — personal narrative entries documenting Edward Kenway's story from the perspective of the 2095 Animus Ego operator reliving his memories. Files in this set: Digitized Diary Page (Havana, end of the southern dock) and Animus Fragment (Cape Bonavista, eastern side, top of the waterfall — story-gated, return after "This Tyro Captain").

The Watchers — encrypted intelligence and surveillance logs connecting to the broader Assassin-Templar conflict viewed from 2095. Files: Manifesto, the Mentor (Caribbean Sea, above the wrecked boat on the small island west of Abaco Island) and Encrypted Blog Post (Great Inagua, on the roof of Du Casse's manor).

Devils of the Caribbean — materials from the fictional in-universe Abstergo Entertainment film of the same name, referencing the original game's subplot where Edward's Animus memories were repurposed as entertainment media by Abstergo. Files: Devils Movie Trailer (Nassau, back of the Tavern) and Devils Release Poster (Salt Key Bank, on the porch of a house on the southeastern side).

Ego — encrypted logs connected specifically to the Animus Ego system — the 2095 technology replacing the original game's Animus and Desmond/Abstergo storyline. Files: Encrypted Report (Caribbean Sea, near a shack on the unnamed island east of Andreas Island) and Diary of Robert Jimenez (Mariguana Island, end of the upper pier on the northern side).

The Animus Rifts: A Related But Separate Feature

Four Animus Rifts scattered across the Caribbean replace the original game's playable Abstergo modern-day sequences.

These are optional narrative side activities exploring "what if?" scenarios for Edward Kenway, Blackbeard, James Kidd, and a fourth character discovered through play.

The first Rift appears on the south coast of Great Inagua after completing Sequence 4's "This Old Cove." Rifts reward money, trade goods, and Data Fragments — not Vault Data Files — and are tracked separately from this guide.
