Iguanas in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced are the easiest-to-hunt land animals in the Caribbean and the first crafting material Edward Kenway needs — two Iguana Leather hides unlock both the Health Upgrade I (+25% maximum health) and the Smoke Bomb Pouch I, making them the most practically important early-game farm target.
All Iguana spawn locations are included and ready for live tracking on Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced complete interactive maps.
The crafting system unlocks at the end of "This Tyro Captain" (Sequence 3, Mission 1) — the same quest that brings Edward to Abaco Island for the first time, where Iguanas are already waiting.
The two crafting recipes that use Iguana Leather are the first upgrades any player should prioritise:
Both recipes together require 4 Iguana Leather total. The Abaco Island spawn provides multiple Iguanas in one visit — four hides from one sweep of the island, handling both crafts in a single stop.
Iguanas are non-aggressive — they won't charge like Crocodiles or fight back like Jaguars, but they do move slowly around their territory and may begin wandering away if Edward gets too close too quickly.
A pistol shot from medium range is the most reliable kill method. Any weapon yields the same drop: 1 Iguana Leather + 1 Bone per kill, regardless of whether they're taken by pistol, sword, blowgun, or assassination.
The Exotic Sea Shells Trinket doubles animal product yield, giving 2 Iguana Leather per kill instead of one — halving the number of Iguanas needed for both crafting recipes from 4 to 2.
Spawn reset: If Iguanas aren't appearing at a known spawn point, fast travel to another island and return. Animals repopulate when the area reloads.
Once the Great Inagua General Store is fully upgraded, Iguana Leather can be purchased directly for 3 Bones per hide.
Bones drop from every animal kill in the game — any hunting session generates them as a byproduct. This is the fastest route to Iguana Leather late in the campaign when Bones are accumulated in quantity.
The Peaceful Means Legendary Pistols at the Great Inagua Treasure Dealer also require Iguana Leather alongside Reales — hold spare hides before selling surplus stock.
Abaco Island (coordinates 582, 808) — multiple Iguanas patrol the island and the camp area. The earliest in-game access point, encountered during "This Tyro Captain."
Andreas Island (coordinates 544, 697) — Iguanas roam the northern side of the island. Also accessible early in the story and a natural combined stop with the Checkers 1-star Tavern for the Grandmaster trophy.
Great Inagua (coordinates 811, 436) — Iguanas spawn near the Villa/Manor on Great Inagua. Accessible after Sequence 4 when the Hideout is established.
A convenient farm point during the mid-game when returning to Great Inagua for Harbourmaster upgrades.
Additional Wild Pig spawns are also confirmed at Great Inagua, making it an efficient combined animal farming location.
