In Elden Ring, a painting plays a key role in the game’s environmental storytelling, serving as the primary trigger for an elaborate scavenger hunt across the Lands Between.

Painting Locations are discovered in ruined shacks and fortified manors.

They are the key requirements for uncovering hidden ghosts who reward the hero with unique armor sets, spirit ashes, and incantations.

Lands Between: Classic Painting Locations

Finding these works of art is the first step; the reward is only granted once you find the exact spot where the artist stood to paint the scene.

• Homing Instinct: Found at the Artist's Shack in East Limgrave. The solution is northwest of the Seaside Ruins, yielding the Incantation Scarab.
• Prophecy: Located in Stormveil Castle, near the Liftside Chamber. The ghost appears behind the Church of Pilgrimage in the Weeping Peninsula, dropping the Warhawk Ashes.
• Resurrection: Found in the Artist's Shack in East Liurnia. Solve this behind Caria Manor in the Three Sisters region to receive the Juvenile Scholar Set and a Larval Tear.
• Redmane: Hidden y in the rubble of Sellia, Town of Sorcery. The solution is on a cliff edge northeast of Fort Faroth, rewarding you with the Rain of Arrows Ash of War.
• Champion's Song: Located within the Shaded Castle. The artist is found on a cliff southwest of the Rampartside Path, dropping the Harp Bow.
• Flightless Bird: Found in the Fortified Manor in Leyndell. The ghost is located south of Windmill Heights, providing the Fire's Deadly Sin incantation.
• Sorcerer: Located in Castle Sol. The solution is on a bridge southwest of the castle, northwest of the Stargazer's Ruins, yielding the Greathood.

Realm of Shadow: DLC Painting Locations

The expansion introduces three additional paintings that lead to high-tier spiritual rewards.

• Incursion: Found at the Artist's Shack in Gravesite Plain. The solution is southwest of the Greatbridge, North, rewarding you with the Serpent Crest Shield.
• The Sacred Tower: Located in a small cave northeast of the Scorched Ruins. Use a Spiritspring east of Temple Town Ruins to find the ghost and the Spiraltree Seal.
• Domain of Dragons: Found in Shadow Keep after descending a ladder in the main plaza. The ghost is hidden on the Jagged Peak mountainside, dropping the Rock Heart.

2026 Nightreign: Limveld Painting

In the 2026 Nightreign expansion, paintings are the core method for tracking Shifting Earth events in the Limveld region.

• Nightreign Castle Painting: This randomized painting appears in the castle's Great Hall during the 2026 expansion. It acts as the primary access point for finding the Ghostly Merchant, whose inventory changes based on which Limveld ruins are currently active.

During a Nightreign Storm, the ghosts from paintings in the Forsaken Hollows glow brighter, allowing you to spot them while mounted on Spectral Hawks from great distances.
