Doom: The Dark Ages: Codex Entry Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Codex Entries are the primary source of lore in Doom: The Dark Ages, offering useful information about the history of the Night Sentinels, the Maykrs, and the origins of the Slayer’s new medieval arsenal.


There are 26 Codex Entries in total. Finding every one of them is mandatory to unlock the Lore Nerd trophy/achievement.


Codex Entries look like glowing, floating pieces of parchment. They are automatically marked on your map with a Paper Icon once you get close to them. While you can use Chapter Replay to go back and find them, it is best to collect them during your first run to stay connected with the context of the story.


Since many of these entries—like the Witch and Marok—are hidden behind puzzles, checking your map frequently is the best way to make sure you don't miss a single fragment. Alternatively, you can track them down using our interactive Doom: The Dark Ages game maps, accessed via the checklist below.

Found on the balcony past the corridor with the fire traps.

Inside a Hidden Cave on a side path.

Hell PriestsChapter 19: Harbor of Souls

Behind some metal bars. To reach it, approach it from the northern room.

Village of KhalimChapter 1: Village of Khalim

Found in the camp on the hill after climbing the wall on the path along the beach.

HebethChapter 2: Hebeth

Found in the secret camp behind the crates, you can reach by jumping away from the main path while on the middle floor.

The Holy City of AratumChapter 5: The Holy City of Aratum

Found at the end of the lower corridor in the large hall reached by climbing the Metal Box.

Between two fires at the end of the Secret Corridor.

On a ledge you can reach after using the Shield Jump.

Found at the end of the corridor past the Purple Gate.

On a ledge you can reach by going down from the Jump Point.

Found after the Point of No Return, just before the elevator you need to use to progress.

In the Hidden Area, after climbing the wall.
