Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: Auto-Paver Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Auto-Pavers are the machines that rebuild Australia's destroyed road network — converting deposited materials into smooth, lit highways that dramatically speed up travel and protect vehicles from Timefall damage.

There are 57 Auto-Pavers across seven highway systems spanning Australia.

Mexico has none — it functions as the game's tutorial region, with no repairable road network. All 57 locations are documented on MapMaster's Death Stranding 2 interactive maps.

Seven Highways

Auto-Pavers are grouped into seven distinct highway segments:

  • AUS-HIGHWAY-01 (southwest Australia, 11 Auto-Pavers running from West Fort Knot to the F5 East Distribution Center)
  • AUS-HIGHWAY-02 (northeast Australia)
  • AUS-HIGHWAY-03 (the longest of all seven, 14 Auto-Pavers crossing the centre of the map through Twin Valley Mine and Savanna Mine to East Fort Knot)
  • AUS-HIGHWAY-04 (the shortest, only 5 Auto-Pavers, branching north from Highway 03 toward the Northeastern Mine)
  • AUS-HIGHWAY-05 through 07 covering the southeast coast and remaining regions

First Unlock and Materials Required

The first Auto-Paver unlocks after completing Order No. 010, found just northeast of the Observatory near the Western Environmental Observatory.

Every Auto-Paver requires varying amounts of Metal, Ceramics, and Chiral Crystals — deposit them directly at the machine to fund the road segment.

Once an Auto-Paver receives all required materials, the road builds instantly and connects automatically with any adjacent completed sections.

Roads Are Shared Across All Players

Auto-Pavers operate as asynchronous multiplayer structures. Materials deposited by other players online contribute to the same Auto-Paver in your own world — meaning a road may complete itself before you ever reach it, without spending a single resource of your own.

Roads built this way do not consume Chiral Network bandwidth, and the proportion of materials personally contributed determines how many Likes are earned from other players using the finished road, directly boosting the Bridge Link Porter Grade stat.

Maintenance and Degradation

Like all structures in Death Stranding 2, completed roads slowly degrade from Timefall and continued use. Durability is shared across every player's world using that road segment — repairing it requires fewer materials than the original build, and only one player needs to contribute for the whole community to benefit.

This degradation is gradual enough that active maintenance is rarely urgent, especially on heavily travelled highways with consistent player traffic.

Level 2 Upgrade: Timefall Protection

Later in the campaign, completed roads can be upgraded to Level 2, adding a covered roof that fully protects vehicles from Timefall damage and increases maximum travel speed.

This upgrade requires an additional materials deposit at the same Auto-Paver location once it becomes available.

Episode 8 Lockout: Highway 01

A small section of land on the western side of the F5 East Distribution Center does not connect to the Chiral Network until a major story event late in Episode 8 — this specifically affects Auto-Paver 01-09 and 01-10.

Plan material deposits accordingly, as these two pavers remain inaccessible until that story beat concludes.

The Road Restorer Trophy

Completing the very first road section in the game unlocks the Road Restorer trophy.

Materials deposited even partially toward an Auto-Paver also boost the Servicemanship and Bridge Link Porter Grade stats, making road-building one of the fastest ways to increase Sam's overall ranking.
